February 10, 1965 Aunt Estelle wrote

Wed.  Rainy part of day

I went to town, out to Mrs. Otey's awhile.  Took Mrs. Otey and Mrs. Masters to Appa. awhile.  To Aunt Rose's this evening.

Footnote:  Mrs. Otey and Mrs. Masters are friends of hers and they live in the town of Big Stone Gap.  Appalachia is a coal-mining town that is just 2 miles from Big Stone.  There was a lot of shops in Appalachia in the early 60's as coal mining was still going on.  The town is completely changed now as coal mining is not what it used to be in that area.  The population has changed so much that they have closed the high school and merged it with the school in Big Stone.  In the 50's and 60's no one would have ever believed that would happen as those two schools were such big rivals in sports.
Aunt Rose Slemp has not been very well and since she lives nearby, she goes to see her often.
