Tues.  1981  warm 80 degrees broke a record.   The men worked in the kitchen.  I worked every where.  Walter Short & Jennings were in.  I went for milk and found a forest fire in Dryden.  Drove down there a minute.

Footnote:  Walter Short is a neighbor.  Jennings is her brother.  Dryden is a small town about 6 miles West of her house.  It is where all the kids in Deep Springs went to school.

Monday, 1981  March.  rainy cloudy sunshiny.  Our carpenter's got started on the kitchen.  Jennings, Reba & Ruth were in.  I had to run up to town a bit.  Our President, Reagan got shot today.

Footnote:  Jennings is her brother.   Reba and Ruth are both sisters-in-law.  Reba is Millard's sister and Ruth is married to Everette, her youngest brother.

My note:  Finished my 3 day show in Rising Sun, Indiana.  It was just OK.  weather was rainy yesterday but was sunny and cool today.  I sold a few things.   I love all the people who run this show or I wouldn't do it.  I like the town and everyone is so nice and friendly.    There were some beautiful quilts in the show.   I think most of the women who come to the show, come to get ideas of things they can make.  They all think they can make the dolls and they could but they won't.  They just don't buy much except from the lady who brings her whole fabric store.   Anyway, it is over for another year and I don't know if I will do it next year.  I am very tired.

Friday  1981   Fair to cloudy.  Jennings was down.  I washed some.  The Touraine building burned at Big Stone.  We had to go stay with Wendi this eve.  Janice worked overtime.

Footnote:  Jennings is her brother.  The Touraine building was a big old apartment building in Big Stone Gap.  There were a lot of people who lived in the building located right on Wood Ave.  almost in the heart of town.    I took piano lessons in that building from Hallie P. Litton.  I walked there after school one afternoon a week for 1/2 hour lesson and I think it cost $4.00.   The building was just about 2 blocks away from the Big Stone Gap school.  I wonder where all those people went to live as I don't remember another apartment building in town.  I remember that two of the high school teachers lived there, Miss Faith Cox and Miss Cora Dingus.  I think they moved to apartments that were over the Mutual Drug store in the middle of town.  I don't remember if anyone died in the fire.
Wendi is her granddaughter and Janice is her daughter who works at the Lonesome Pine Hospital.  I guess there were people taken there after the fire.

Thursday 1981  Fair  Jennings and I planted potatoes, onions, cabbage, lettuce, mustard & radishes.  Gene Lipps was here nearly all evening.

Footnote:  Jennings is her brother.  Seems a little early to be planting since she was just talking about snow and how cold it was, but I am sure that all they planted came up and was really good.  Gene Lipps is a neighbor/friend who seems to come by pretty often.

My note:   I am driving to Florence, Ky. to meet Leah, Kenny and Max for dinner at Red Robin.  I have not been there - I think it is an expensive hamburger joint.     Max has made it necessary for the family to have dinner together every Wednesday - no phones or electronics allowed - just time to talk.  It is very interesting some of the things he wants to talk about.    He has a list posted on the fridge or all the restaurants he wants to go to.   It is long and they have been doing this since school started.  They have been many places and more places to go - none of them twice.  Good they live in a place where everybody wants to go out to eat, so there are plenty of good restaurants - every chain you can think of and a few local joints.  I am taking a break from doll making as I am getting ready for a 3 day show this weekend in Rising Sun, Indiana - about 45 minutes west of here on the river.  It is a quilt show so most of the women sew and I don't sell that many dolls as they all think they can make one themselves.  I take my old fabrics and quilt books and that is what I sell mostly.

Footnote:  Estelle Kelly is a good friend of hers - the same age I am guessing.  Millard is her husband.  Boy, how long has it been since you heard the next two names?    Alean Reasor is her cousin and I am just not sure of the connection.  I think she was married to Joe Reasor and they lived in Stickyliville - near Pennington Gap.  Was he a brother to Pappy?  Who remembers?   Grant Morefield was a neighbor, I think, at one time.  No family connection.   I remember the name Campbell Slemp but not much about him.

My Note:   About the Reasor Reunion in Kingsport in July.

I have reserved some rooms at the Comfort Inn South in Kingsport for July 18 and 19.   The address is 4624 Fairlane Drive, Kingsport  37663 and the phone number is  423-239-7447.  I spoke with Susan and she is holding 12 rooms - 5 rooms have 1 kingsize bed  and 7 rooms have two queen size beds.  All are non-smoking.   She said this is all the rooms she has so if you want a particular type of room, call as soon as you can.  The reservations are under REASOR FAMILY REUNION.  Ask for that and she will give you the group rate of $69.99 plus tax (of course) per night.    The hotel has a free buffet breakfast and WiFi (for you computer geeks).     Each person/family will need to call the hotel and reserve your room giving them the credit card info, etc.   If you want the room for additional nights, you will have to work that out with the hotel.
Hopefully, we can have a family dinner either at Mother's house or go to a restaurant on Friday night and maybe to Stephen's on Saturday.  We will work that out as the time gets closer.    I remember last time, a lot of people wanted to leave on Sunday which is why I think we should have the big party on Saturday.  Let me know what you all think about what you would like to do.   We are not having a party for Mother's birthday (July 16), she doesn't want it.   It will be so much fun to see everyone and just be together.

Nice day here, about 45 degrees and sun is shinning.   It just makes you feel better to see sunlight.   Leslie is in Key West on the ship and her friends had their wedding at 11:00 this morning.   She called earlier and said she had a great birthday, cake at dinner and all her friends there.   Wednesday after school,   I took Max and Hope to Dave and Buster's - it is a huge game room where they can win prizes - stuffed animals and other things.  Rachel went with us.  They had a car full of things when we got finished.   Today, Max has on the agenda - to go to St. Vincent De Paul for a couple of bags of plush toys.  They put 15, more or less,  stuffed animals in a big clear  plastic bag and they go for $3.99.  He loves  to inspect each one - there are so many bags - and see if there is something in the bag that he doesn't have.   He is such a special child and I will do everything in my power to make him happy.    Leah and Kenny will take the red-eye flight from Las Vegas tonight and get here sometime tomorrow, Sat..  They fly stand-by so hopefully they will get on the flights they want.  Leslie will be home tomorrow afternoon.  And I will be home as soon as they all get here.  These dogs are driving me crazy - in and out and in and out.
