Sept. 15, 1980 Aunt Estelle wrote

Monday Fair cool to hot.  I washed some, cut out a dress and sewed some.  We sold 75 bales of hay to John Kelly.   We decided to go for flu shots.  The car was dead.  We got it to the garage & fixed.  Jennings & Ruth were in.

Footnote:  She made most of the dresses she wore.  I don't know who John Kelly is.  There were several Kelly families in that community.  I am wondering how they got the car to the garage if it was dead.  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby and Ruth is the wife of her younger brother, Everette and she lives close by, too.

My notes:  Mother sent me a clipping from the Big Stone Gap Post (newspaper).  The clipping had a picture of a Kelly family of 8 brothers and sisters who had lived in the Deep Springs area.  All 8 had married and were still married to the same person so they decided to renew their vows  as a group.  3 of the couples had been married at the Deep Springs Baptist church so that is where they had the ceremony.  It is very interesting to read about them.  I think one of the boys was named John.  I am pretty sure that Redge, Rosemary and maybe Janice went to school with them.  I am sending Redge and Rosemary copies of the article.  Mother just called and said there was a nice article and picture of the group in the Kingsport paper.  She is sending that to me and I will forward it on to you all.  She said the church looked so nice in the picture.   I think that is a remarkable accomplishment for all 8 of the couples.   Should have had some "good news" TV coverage.
