Sunday, cold.  Janice & Wendi was home for dinner.  We went to Magic Mart.  Jennings, Edith & Roy were in.  Robbie Hunt was baptized tonite.

Nice day here today.  Neighborhood is having a yard sale and there are lots of people outside.  I am not participating - nothing to sell - Ha!!!   Leah said I should just open the garage door.  She things everything out there is junk -  Not true!! That is my   "hoarders closet".     I am going with some friends to Rabbit Hash, Ky. today for a meeting with  my  fiber art friends.  The gal who is hosting the meeting is a very famous quilter.  Her work is incredible and it is always fun to see her studio and what she is working on.   It is a potluck lunch.  I made deviled eggs and salami rollups.   Then I got lots of work to do when I get back.  Next show is Sunday, Oct. 6.  I'm excited to show again.  Well that is what's going on here.   Hope you are all OK.

Sat.  1980  46 degrees, real cool.  I baked pies, washed a load of clothes.  We went up to Jennings & down to Uncle Millards with pies.  I went down to Wampler's to a yard sale awhile.  The boys finished hanging the tobacco.  Ruth Olinger Ringley died this eve.  We had Debra Lawson a baby shower tonite.

Footnote:  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby and Uncle Millard is her mother's half-brother and he also lives nearby.   How many pies did she make?  I don't have time to make one - where does our time go?  Wamplers must have been a family somewhere in the neighborhood.  I have heard the name Ruth Olinger - I think she was a school friend.  Debra Lawson, I am guessing, was probably a member of her church or a neighbor.

Thurs. Rain off & on all day.   I cleaned my wardrobe and papered.  It was a mess.  Jennings ate lunch with us.  I visited Mrs. Graham a while.

Footnote:  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby.  Mrs. Graham is her neighbor and friend.

Here is a recipe from her notebook: Thought it would be good this time of year.
Apple Dumplings:
1 large can Biscuits
4 cups finely chopped (not to much) apples
Roll biscuits until thin.  roll about 3 times (about as big as your hand)
Place apples inside. Fold and place in a glass baking dish.
Filling:
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 stick margarine
Heat until sugar is dissolved.  Pour over dumplings.  Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Doesn't that sound good and easy?   Maybe I will make this for the potluck lunch I have to go to Saturday.   If you make this, let me know.

Monday 1980  Rainy.  I put in a wash when Millard decided we should go to Charlie Ely's.  He is sick.  I stopped the washer and we went over the mt.  & back up by Kingsport.  They were over here June 16, 1980 to visit us.  We went over there Sept. 27 last year.

Footnote:  Millard is her husband and, as I remember, didn't like to go too many places.  So when he said go, I think she was ready, even stopped the washer.  mt. is short for mountain - they had to cross the mountain to get to Charlie's house.   Charlie Ely was a relative, but I don't know how he was related.    They lived somewhere in Tennessee I think.   I remember being at their house but couldn't tell you where the house was.  Kingsport is a town in Tennessee and they could get home by going thru Kingsport or going back across the mountain.

My notes:   I am at Leah's but going back home today.  I have been here since Wed.  when Leah had to go to St. Louis for real estate training.  I got Max off to school Thur. & Fri.  He is very self-sufficient and did everything for himself, even waking me up.  We went to the Half-Price book store one night and he found some movies - he has about a million.   We all went to yard sales yesterday and he found some things - stuffed animals - he has as many of those as he does videos.   Leah got home safely late Friday night in the rain.   Nice day here today - cool and sunny.   Hope all is well with each of you.  Would love to see you all.  Hope we can get together in 2014.

Footnote:  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby and she does a lot of visiting with him.  She also feeds him a lot.  He is lonely as his wife, Elizabeth , died earlier in the year.  Good she has him to go places with her as her husband, Uncle Millard, would really rather stay at home.

Other info:  This is Smith  Kevin Reasor's birthday, born Sept. 20, 1962.  He is the youngest son of Everette and Ruth Reasor .  So now that makes him over the 50 mark.  He is the youngest grandchild so that means the rest of us are getting really OLD. Speaking on behalf of all your older cousins, we wish you a Happy Birthday.   Wish we all could have a piece of that delicious pie or cake that Linda is making for you.

I went home for a few days but I am back at Leah's house.  Leah had to go to St. Louis for some real estate training.  She has such anxiety about leaving her house that she gets sick.  Her boss paid for the training so she felt obligated to go.  They drove - 4 of them.  She will be back Fri. night.  Max got me up at 6:15 AM to get ready for school.  He is very organized and knows exactly what to do and the order in which it is to be done.   He is out the door about 7:05 and on the school bus.   He will be back home at 3 PM.  He wants me to take him to Half Price Book store when he gets home.  He loves to buy movies and games there.  I like the store too as I always find something.    Now I am off to take a nap.

Monday Fair cool to hot.  I washed some, cut out a dress and sewed some.  We sold 75 bales of hay to John Kelly.   We decided to go for flu shots.  The car was dead.  We got it to the garage & fixed.  Jennings & Ruth were in.

Footnote:  She made most of the dresses she wore.  I don't know who John Kelly is.  There were several Kelly families in that community.  I am wondering how they got the car to the garage if it was dead.  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby and Ruth is the wife of her younger brother, Everette and she lives close by, too.

My notes:  Mother sent me a clipping from the Big Stone Gap Post (newspaper).  The clipping had a picture of a Kelly family of 8 brothers and sisters who had lived in the Deep Springs area.  All 8 had married and were still married to the same person so they decided to renew their vows  as a group.  3 of the couples had been married at the Deep Springs Baptist church so that is where they had the ceremony.  It is very interesting to read about them.  I think one of the boys was named John.  I am pretty sure that Redge, Rosemary and maybe Janice went to school with them.  I am sending Redge and Rosemary copies of the article.  Mother just called and said there was a nice article and picture of the group in the Kingsport paper.  She is sending that to me and I will forward it on to you all.  She said the church looked so nice in the picture.   I think that is a remarkable accomplishment for all 8 of the couples.   Should have had some "good news" TV coverage.

Sunday,  Fair hot, shower.  We had homecoming today, a good time.  Curt, Martha, Kenneth & Anna & Kids come.  Millard & I went over to Uncle Rays late.   Dr. Dan Reasor's only son Randolph shot and hilled himself today at Dan's house, Chilhowie.

Footnote:  Curt Ely is related to her husband, Millard Ely and Martha is Curt's wife.  Kenneth is Curt's brother and I think he lives in Big Stone Gap.  Ray Baker is a half-brother to Estelle's mother, Lula Baker Reasor.  They lived near Pennington Gap, Va. , about 30 minutes away.  I don't remember how Dr. Dan Reasor is related.  I have heard of him but don't know the connection.   I know Stephen will know and Redge too.

My note:   So I am back at Leah's house after a nice camping trip with her family.  We went to Laurel Lake just south of London, Ky.  It is a lovely spot with a huge lake.  There was a lot of us and we had a good time.    They all went boating and swimming on Sat. and I stayed at the campsite and sewed all day.   The peace and quite was great.  I did go out on the pontoon with them Sunday and had a nice time.
