I canned 7 quarts of beans. We mowed the front yard. Then I gathered some more corn and fixed it. We talked to Redge tonite. Allso called to Charlie Ely's.

Tues. 1981 Clear, hot to a storm & rain by night.
We took Rosemary and Shanna to the airport. Sure hurt leaving them. We packed us a sandwich and eat on our way. Stopped at Edith's coming and going too. Rosemary called from Dallas tonite.

Sunday 1981 Fair Hot
We didn't make the Reasor reunion for I was worn out and Janice was on call. Roy, Edith, Sandra & Joshua were here. Kenneth, Jeaneen & kids got in. They come down tonite.
Footnote: Reasor reunion was held every year, ususally the same weekend. I remember going to it at Jonesville in the park where the swimming pool was. Janice is her daughter who is a nurse. Roy and Edith are her sister and brother-in-law. Sandra is her niece and Joshua is Sandra's son. Kenneth Reasor is Jennings' son who lives in Iowa. Jeaneen is his wife and they have 3 sons and 1 daughter.

Saturday 1981 Fair hot.
We worked in house. Went to Janice Gail's in evening. Shanna got in with the church group from the Smokies. She had walked thru a glass door and had a few cuts. The Drs. saw her and taped her up.
Footnote: Janice is her daughter who lives about 9 miles away in Big Stone Gap. Shanna is her granddaughter who is visiting from New Mexico.
My note: Looks like everyone of you got home safely. Dan Reasor may still be on the road as they were taking a long route home. Thanks again to each and everyone of you who made the long trip to celebrate with Mother and each other. Mother had all her nieces and nephews and grandchildren here except for Karen Shuler, Don and Ann's youngest daughter. That is a great tribute to us all as a family. There were many great nieces and nephews also.

We were all up at 6 oclock getting Shanna off to Gatlinburg with the church bunch. Rosemary & I went to Kingsport all day. We didn't buy much. Stopped at Edith's on our way in.

The kids went to Harlan this morn. Wendi ran the sweeper. I washed and cooked. Leisha & Shanna went swimming this eve and Redge, Rosemary and Wendi, Millard & I went to Curtis & Martha's awhile.

I'm sick but working anyway. Washed some, aired some bed clothes. Jake Parson brought some beans. Bob & Francis picked Reba up at the hospital and stoped a minute. Jennings was here. I went to Dryden for John Wade's and Jane Arwood's wedding this eve. Stoped at Clyde Orrs a minute & visited.
Footnote: Jake Parsons was a neighbor of hers. Bob Ratliff and Francis Ely Ratliff were Reba's elatives. Jennings is her brother. I remember the Wade's and the Orrs but not much about them.

I went for milk, picked beans & potatoes . We went to the hospital to see Reba, who will be home tomorrow. I didn't feel good all day. Got another call from Georgia and Martha Chupp talked. She thinks Radious is her mother and Hyatt Barran was her daddy. Hyatt Barron hung himself 1939.
Footnote: Reba is her sister-in-law. This info on Martha Chupp is as much as I know about these people. I remember Radious Reasor but that is about all.
My note: This is the first entry I have made since last week. I want to thank each and every one of you for coming to celebrate Mother's 95th. birthday. She had a great 3 days of celebration and is a little tired today. Thanks for all the gifts and for all the food you all made and brought. We had a great reunion, too. So glad to see everyone. I hope we can do it all again next year or in a couple of years. Those of you who weren't able to make it, we missed you.

Thurs . 1981 Rain off & on all day. Wendi & I went to the P. O. , the bank & grocery store. I finally washed a load of clothes. Jennings was in several times. Had a call tonite about a Martha Chupp, thru a Mr. Jones. Martha thinks Radious is her mother and Hyatt Barron her father (he hung himself). This Martha borned July 19, 1938 at Holston Valley Hospital.

Wendi & I cleaned on the house all morning. We went to the Dr. this eve. Visited Reba at the hospital. I took Wendi home. Watched her swim awhile. Come by Edith's a minute. To prayer meeting tonite.

I worked in the strawberry patch awhile. We mowed the lawn late. Hattie Francis come by, she had been to see Reba at the hospital. She was feeling good, or better.
Footnote: Hattie Francis is her niece by marriage. She was raised by Reba but is the daughter of Millard's (her husband) brother - Paris Ely I think. Millard had a few brothers and I don't remember which one is which. Reba is Millard's sister.

Jennings & I worked the garden this morn. I picked up the apples and Reba came by and wanted me to take her to enter the hospital. Stell Kelly come for part of the apples and I canned the others after night.

Janice & Wendi home, also Jennings eat with us. We went up to rug place a minute and to Magic Mart. To church.
Footnote: Janice is her daughter and Wendi is her granddaughter. Jennings is her brother. I don't remember anything about the rug place. Magic Mart is a store with groceries and general merchandise, I think.
My note: I am leaving tomorrow, Sunday, July 13, to drive to Mothers in Kingsport. I will be there for a month. Her 95th. birthday is July 16 and we will all celebrate on Friday, July 18 at her house. I have asked everyone to bring a dish to share. Also, if you have a lawn chair you can bring, that would be great. Mother doesn't have that many chairs now - I will try to find a place to rent some when I get down there. Then on Sat. we will all go to Stephen's house in Lee County where we will have a pot-luck picnic. A side dish will be fine to bring as he and Smith will be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers. Bring pictures to share if you have them. I checked with the hotel and you all have reserved 9 rooms - there are three rooms left in case anyone else needs a room. My cell phone # is 859-802-8868. Mother's address is 909 Edgewood Circle and her phone is 423-239-4652. See you all soon.

I washed some. went to Woodrow Sturgills & bought blackberries. Canned them. Our pastor's wife, Brenda Zion and 3 girls had a car wreck so we went up there a minute and stopped at Reba's. Seems the ones in the car wreck are O.K. after getting check. Jennings was in.
Footnote: Woodrow Sturgill is one of the sons of a very large family that lives on the back road near her house. I have picked blackberries very near where he would have picked the ones she bought. My Daddy's farm joined up with the Sturgill farm. Didn't know the Zion family. Reba is her sister-in-law and lives nearby. Jennings is her brother and he lives nearby, too. He actually lives very near the Sturgill farm. Those canned blackberries would make some good cobbler during the long winter months. I know she did something good with them.

I baked a peach cobbler & took Jennings some. Wendi & I went for milk & eggs. I picked up apples and canned 12 quarts this eve. Listened to preacher Akers on stero tonite. He is 107 years old.
Footnote: Jennings is her brother who lives nearby and is well-fed. Wendi is her granddaughter who is staying during the day with her while she is on summer break. She must have a dairy full of canned apples by now. I don't remember a preacher Akers.

Tues. 1981 cloudy to fair hot.
Wendi & I went to grocery store. Sandra & Joshua come out all evening. Roy & Edith, Leah & Rachel all come. I picked up apples late. Went to Missionary Society tonite.
Footnote: Wendi is her granddaughter. Sandra is her niece and Joshua is Sandra's son. Sandra is the daughter of Everette, Estelle's youngest brother. Edith is her sister and Roy is Edith's husband. Leah & Rachel are granddaughters of Roy & Edith. They are my daughters and we live in Cincinnati. The girls loved spending a few days with DeeDee and Granddaddy during the summer. Missionary Society is an organization that is part of her church.

Monday 1981 Rain & more rain.
We have Wendi. didn't get anything done. We went to Lizzie's a minute and Jennings. Millard and I visited Pearl after Wendi went home. Stell Kelly & Timothy were here this morning.
Footnote: Wendi is her granddaughter - who must have needed a lot of attention since she didn't get anything done - ha!. Lizzie Sturgill is one of her friends who lives not so far away. Millard is her husband and Pearl Barkley is her cousin who lives a few miles away. Stell Kelly is her good friend from church and a neighbor. Not sure who Timothy is, probably Stell Kelly's grandson.

Janice & Wendi were home. We went to the Fannon boys funeral. Boyd & Hilda's son Bryant shot himself to death. Our Dr. Taylor held the service

A.T. come for Wendi early. I canned apples. Hattie Francis come a while. I went to the garden and stopped at the Ward house & talked to Greg and Ronnie Flanary.
Footnote: A. T. Collier is Wendi's father. Hattie Francis is her niece, she was raised by Reba and Tom Reasor. Reba is Millard's sister. The Ward house is on the back road near her house. The Flanary boys are from Dryden. I think Ronnie is the one that is in the nursing home in Big Stone Gap. He is very friendly and always there when we go to see Aunt Ruth. He always says, "I am Larry Flanary's brother". Larry Flanary still lives in Dryden and I think he lives in the family house that he was raised in. Not sure about that though.
My Note: I went to Louisville, Ky. Thurs and set up my tent and booth in a park for a weekend show. Show opened Friday 10AM - nice crowd but they weren't turning loose of their money. I sold very little which is hard for all the work I have to do to get there. Saturday wasn't much better but that is the way it goes. Next show is in Abingdon, Aug. 6-10. I have to bring all my stuff for the show as I go to Mothers for the birthday/reunion. See you all very soon - Friday July 18. Can't wait and Mother is getting very excited to see everyone.

I went for milk & eggs and cooked dinner. Took Jennings some food. Went to Edith's garden and got beans, then to the apple trees. Jennings & Uncle Ray came by a minute. We went up to Reba's a minute to see Frances & boys. Wendi came to stay all nite while A. T. & Janice went to A. T. 's class reunion party.
Footnote: Jennings is her brother who lives nearby. Edith is her sister - she lives in Big Stone but has a garden on the farm near Estelle's house. Uncle Ray Baker is the half-brother of her Mother, Lula Baker Reasor. Reba is her sister-in-law and Frances is Reba's niece, but Reba raised her in Olinger, Virginia. Frances lives in Kingsport, Tn., about 45 miles away. Wendi is her granddaughter. A. T. Collier went to East Stone Gap school until fall of 1959 when he had to go to Powell Valley High School. Big Stone and East Stone schools were merged into one. I was in the first class to graduate from Powell Valley. We all hated it that year - East Stone had been one of our sports rivals and to have to go to school with them, we thought it was just awful. The East Stone kids felt the same. As I recall, A. T. was a very bright student. He was not in my class but I think a year or two behind me. May have graduated with Doug in 1962. Wendi graduated from the same school. An interesting thing that has just happened, they have now built a new school on the same property in Powell Valley. It is now called Union High School and they are known as the Bears. The county decided to close the Appalachia High school and bus all those students to Union High in Powell Valley. The population in Appalachia has declined as the coal mining has declined and that is one reason they closed the school. Just in the last few months, they have torn down the Powell Valley High School - 50 + years later.

I washed, picked some razzberries & Jennings got in from Ark. and come down a minute. We went to prayer meeting tonite.
Footnote: Jennings is her brother who just left on Sunday to drive to Arkansas. He sure didn't stay very long for such a long drive. His daughter, Betty Jean, lived in Arkansas.
