Tues. 1981 Fair hot to a shower at night.
Janice, Wendi & I went to Kingsport all day. When I got back I went for milk and over under the apple trees. Radious & Walter were here.
Footnote: Janice is her daughter and Wendi is her granddaughter. Kingsport, Tenn. is a nice sized town about 45 minutes drive from her home. They have some nice stores - my favorite was always F.W. Woolworth's 5 & 10. They had the best food at a counter with stools - the counter was about as deep as the building was. They also had water fountains that were marked for "Whites only" and one for "Colored Only". The water fountains were near the bathrooms which were also marked the same way. This was in the 50's. They also had the best chocolate covered peanuts ever. I do not know what she meant with the sentence about the apple trees. I can't read her writing well enough to figure it out. Radious & Walter are neighbors.
My note: I was talking to Mother (Edith Reasor Shuler) yesterday and she was reading the following obituary to me: Virginia Lee Reasor, age 94 , has passed away. She was from Deep Springs and lived 35 years in Big Stone Gap. In 1987 she moved to Johnson City to live the rest of her life in the Christian Village. She was the daughter of Samuel Logan and Lillie Agnes Smith Reasor. She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 6 sisters.
Immediately, Mother started naming off all 12 of those children. I could not believe that she was able to do that, when 5 minutes before she couldn't think of Doug's name.
Anyway, I thought that those of you who remember Virginia Reasor would want to know. She was a school teacher in Big Stone Elementary.

My Note: I had a lot of things to do this morning and totally forgot about writing,. sorry. We all went with Leslie yesterday to find her wedding dress. All 8 of us rode in Rachel's big van so it was a fun day. She did find her wedding dress and it is beautiful. Not even close to what we all thought she would choose. We did take some pictures but she doesn't want them posted on the internet. The dress is lace so it has to be made for her and that takes at least 6 months so I guess she didn't start too early. She is very excited and that is all that matters. She is getting married in May in Las Vegas, so if any of you all want an excuse to go to Las Vegas, come on and join us in the celebration.

I am waiting for Rachel and Hope to pick me up and we are going across the ferry over the Ohio River to Leah's house. We are all going with Leslie today to help her shop for her wedding dress. I am a little tired but not too tired to do this. With all this input she may never make a decision. I told her she could wear my dress but she has passed on that. Should be a fun day.

The show I did in Bloomington, Ind. was not so good. It was hot and sunny and there was a nice crowd but what a bunch of poor people - no money to spend on my stuff. It was really a waste of time and I am really tired. I did have a gal who owns an art gallery in Bloomington approach me about selling my things in her store. I think the people in that community don't care for my things so I am not much interested in giving her my things. So I am headed to bed.

Happy Father's Day to all our cousins who are fathers. Most of us have lost our fathers already and I know I miss mine. Take a little time to think about some of the good things you remember about your father. I remember when all the family would gather at our house in Big Stone Gap, Daddy would go to Pet Dairy and get a big box of Brown Mules - remember them?? They were vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate that got hard and it was on a stick. He would also bring popsicles - banana and orange were my favorite. He was a really hard worker - he would get up at 4:00am to get to Pet Dairy where he would work all day. He would come home about 4:00 PM and change clothes and get in his truck and drive the 9 miles to his farm in Lee County. He would work on the farm till it was dark. Sometimes he would eat his supper at 8 o'clock at night. He loved working on the farm with Uncle Jennings when he moved back to Lee county. My Daddy was a good man but he did have a short fuse when he thought someone was doing something wrong. One of the last times we took him out to eat - he loved to go out to eat - we went to Shoney's in Kingsport - Mother and Doug were with us. We ate and he wanted to pay - he got out a $20 dollar bill and Doug said "Daddy, it is $23.00". Daddy said "Well it was only worth $20.00". Doug had to pay the difference.
Even today, if I think something is not right or somebody does something stupid that affects me, I will have that same little fit that Daddy had = my kids can see it coming and they will say, Watch out, Roy is about to show up. Leah has a very tolerant personality until someone ruffles her feathers and she will cut loose. Roy shows up as often as is necessary and he will never be forgotten.

We went to the Cabana, a nice restaurant on the river and ate dinner. Rachel came too. They have decided to get married in Las Vegas May 9 of next year. Any of you that need an excuse to go to Las Vegas, here it is. Will be a lot of fun. Today, Sat. I am headed to Leah's house to pick up Max. We are going yard saleing - our favorite Sat. thing to do. The weather is great - sunny and cool.

I washed some, swept the floors. This eve I went to Dryden to a yard sale and car wash. Reba, Radious & Walter were all in. Jennings eat lunch with us. Brenda Zion our pastor's wife entered the hospital in Knoxville.
Footnote: Dryden is a town about 6 miles away. Reba is her sister-in-law and lives nearby. Radious & Walter are also neighbors. Jennings is her brother. Knoxville is a large town about 2 hours West. University of Tennessee is there and it is also where Rosemary went to business school. I remember going with Aunt Estelle to take Rosemary to school. I remember parking in front of a big building but don't remember much more. I don't know if Janice was with us or not.

Footnote: Jennings is her brother and I am sure she is glad to have him back from vacation. Don't know what the Rainbow salesman is - maybe a vacuum cleaner man? Sturgills is a large family that lives on the back road near her home. There were a lot of kids I guess.

Footnote: Molly Ward is her neighbor. I don't know who Bruce Lacey and Reba are. Heard the name but I don't have any info on them. Lizzie Sturgill is also a neighbor - lives on the same back road as Mrs. Ward.
I'm taking a day off and driving to Morehead, Ky. to a Folk Art Show - checking it out - may be something I want to be in next year. It is about 3 hours away. Nice weather and nice day for a drive. Hope you are feeling better, Janice.

We went to Central Supply for roof paint. Come by Edith's and out to Janice by the time Wendi come in. We came to Burger Queen for lunch. A. T. & Janice brought down Millard a lawn mower & we have Puddles the dog.
Footnote: Central Supply was a general household and farm supply company, I think. Also it is the place where Aunt Ruth Reasor worked for years (I think). Edith is her sister who lives in Big Stone where Janice, her daughter also lives. Wendi is her granddaughter and is a school student. Burger Queen was a local fast food hamburger joint - Country Boy would have been better - not sure if it was open still in 1981. A. T. is Janice's husband. I love that she says they brought Millard a lawnmower - she never says that Millard is mowing the yard. Seems she is always the one mowing the yard. Puddles is Janice and or Wendi's dog.
My note: Sorry I haven't been able to post daily since last week. I had a warning on my laptop screen - I just ignored it and sure enough I burned up the hard drive. It happened just as I was getting ready for a three day show so there was no time to act before the show. So of course, Best Buy wants more money to fix it that is costs to buy a new one. Leah had just bought a new Mac, so she is letting me use her old computer. I can't believe how much I got done when I wasn't wasting time on the computer. Anyway, just can't live without one now - gotta pay my bills, check my bank account and apply to shows. I will just buy a new one eventually.
For those of you who don't know, Janice has the shingles on the right side of her face. She felt sick Sunday and went to the emergency room early Monday morning - got medicine and hopefully in time to prevent the blisters and scabs. When I had them, by the time I went to the Dr. it was already too late for medicine. It just had to run its' course and it was 3 weeks of very painful burning. I hope she is feeling better today.
