Monday, 1980   We have Wendi.   Not so hot today.  Fair.  I got Junior Lawson to put the soda on the tobacco.  Curt, Martha, Jennings, Elizabeth, Mr. & Mrs. Jake Parsons were in.

Footnote:  Wendi is her granddaughter.  Junior Lawson must be a local farmer that she got to help with the tobacco.  Curt is her brother-in-law and Martha is his wife.  Jennings is her brother and Elizabeth is his wife.  Mr. and Mrs. Jake Parsons  are neighbors and friends of hers.  That is a lot of company but she always liked to have people visit.   And if they didn't come to her house, she went to their house.

Sunday 1980    Ginger was saved.  Cloudy and not so hot.  Janice & I went up to Mrs. Ball's yard sale this eve.  We had fellowship supper tonite and singing.  Ruth & George Roberts visited after church.

Footnote:  Ginger must have been a church member.  Janice is her daughter who loves yard sales.  Mrs. Ball lived near Big Stone Gap and I am guessing she had a good yard sale.  Ruth and George Roberts are neighbors of hers and they are fellow church members.

My note:  I am doing very good.  Able to do most everything I want except drive.  That will happen in a couple of weeks (only because I have a straight-stick).  I have driven Leah's car a couple times.
I haven't been able to post in a couple of days because my computer had a virus and $200.00 later I am able to get it back from Best Buy and now it is clean.  I hate changes and they changed everything on here.  It is like learning all the things again.   And who remembers all those passwords????

Thur. 1980  Reba picked us up at noon and we went to see Curt & Martha.   Curt is just out of hospital after repair on two hernias.  Jennings & Elizabeth come late.  I went and picked a mess of peas late.

Footnote:  Reba is her sister-in-law and good friend.  Curt is her brother-in-law (I think) and Martha is his wife.  Jennings is her brother and Elizabeth is his wife.   I know those peas were good when she cooked them.  Love fresh peas.

My footnote:  looks like I forgot to make the  entry yesterday.  I am feeling better every day.  Yesterday, Max was meeting up with one of his school friends.  The were going to go to Coney Island to swim but it was cloudy and rainy so they decided to play putt-putt.  I got to go to Barnes and Noble while they were playing golf.  Leah and the other Max's mother were with them.  Then I meet them for lunch.   We went to Lowe's looking for glow in the dark spray paint to spray on some flower pots - something we saw on Pinterest.   Kenny (Leah's husband)  sprayed the flower pot (taking over Leah's project) and left it sitting on top of a cardboard box.   It started raining and wind blowing and blew the box over breaking the flower pot.   So much for Leah's project.   We will do it when Kenny is at work.    Leslie got her first paycheck yesterday and she was very happy.   At her age, you cannot have enough money - so many things she wants.    I go to the Dr. tomorrow to see why I am still light-headed.    Hope they can find out - I went on Monday and had blood work done so maybe they will have all the info they need.  I can live with this just have to move a little slower.  Hope you all are well.

Footnote:  Janice is her daughter and Wendi is her granddaughter.  Millard is her husband.  Big Stone Gap is a town about 9 miles Northeast of her home.  It is a nice little town with some stores and places to eat.  Lots of people used to just park on the street, sit in the car and watch the people moving about on the sidewalk.  My Mother loved to "go to town" on Saturday and watch the people.  The town is not as lovely or busy as it was back in the late 50's .   But then not much is the same as it was that many years ago.

Sat.  Fair, cool.  I coughed a lot last nite.  felt bad this morning.  I layed around all morning, finally got up and mowed some.  We went up to Jennings late.

Footnote:    If she coughed all night, do you think she should have been mowing the grass?   Jennings is her brother who lives nearby.

My footnote:   I am sitting on the covered deck at Leah's.  It is in the 80's and getting warmer on this the first day of summer.    Kenny is building a shed in the back yard and he is taking a break as it is getting pretty warm.   Leah is off showing another house and Max is in his room where it is cool, playing on the computer.   Leah took me downtown this morning to have my hair cut.  Then we had lunch at our favorite place - been going there for 30 years after having our hair cut.   Our favorite place was not so good - new ownership and they had only about half the things that were on the menu.  We ate and then complained.   They used to have this great yogurt salad with cottage cheese, fruit, nuts and apricot sauce.  That is all I ever got and just what I wanted today.  So they had no yogurt or apricot sauce.  Bummer.    Came home and took a nap.  Feel better now.  4 weeks today that I had the surgery so I can drive pretty soon.

Footnote:  Lizzie Sturgill lives nearby and I guess she had a lot of chickens as she always gets her eggs there.  She went to another neighbor for the milk.  Mrs. Orr lived in a big house within sight of Estelle's house.  Jennings is her brother and Elizabeth is his wife.  They live nearby.

My footnote:   the weather is so nice here.  I have been sitting out on the deck and there is a nice breeze and it is cool.  I am doing fine - been here 3 weeks now and things have worked out just fine.  Will be glad to get back home in the near future and able to drive again.  I don't have any shows to get ready for, so just taking it easy.  I am embroidering for the doll bodies but that is just to keep me from getting so bored.  Watching some movies and spending time with Max and Leslie and Leah & Kenny.   Rachel and Hope come on the weekends and stay with me.    Hope you all are well and stay that way.  Not fun being old, sick and held down for long.

Footnote:  Charlie Ely is her cousin and they live in Tenn.  - probably a couple hours away.  The other people are Charlie's family.   So she worked herself into a frenzie.  Jennings is her brother and Reba is her sister-in-law.   I don't much of the history of Charlie, just remember always hearing his name and I do remember going to his house in Tenn.  He had two sons and I can't remember the other boys name but is was as strange as Gardell's name.  Anyone remember the other boy's name???

my footnote:   I am continuing to feel better.  Still at Leah's house.  Leah and Kenny went to his family gathering for Father's Day.   Max and I stayed here at home.  They brought us food when the got back home.  The family is very large and sometimes pretty loud.  Just not up to that yet.  Rachel and Hope came over yesterday and we all went to the grocery.  I am terrible at driving that electric cart.  Hope thought it was funny.    Talked to Mother today and she is doing good.  Janice took Mother shopping and to the grocery yesterday - thanks Janice for being so good to do that.

Thursday 1980  Fair cool to hot.  We have Wendi.  We went to Norton this eve.  ate at Burger Queen at Big Stone.  Come back down the back valley and ran in a yard sale.  After supper we went down to Uncle Ray Bakers and stopped at Zora Parsons.

Footnote:  Wendi is her granddaughter.  Norton is a nice town about 12 miles away, on top of a mountain.  Burger Queen was a very popular place to eat in Big Stone Gap.  It is not there now.  There are two ways to get to Norton and I think that is what she means by coming back down the back valley.    Ray Baker is the half-brother of her mother and he is a brother of Millard Baker.   Zora Parsons is her friend I think for many years.

My note:  feeling good today, been sewing.  Leslie went for her first day of work.  Leah is showing houses so it is just me and Max here.  It is very hot outside so Leah didn't want me to go out.

My footnote:  I am doing good.  Saw the cardiologist yesterday and he took me off the lasic (water pill).  I was light headed and felt sick at my stomach after I took it in the morning.  My feet are not swollen and I am continuing to lose weight so he thought it would be OK to stop taking it.  Today I feel good.  Leslie has a job interview today so they are going shopping for an "interview outfit".  I will go with them and they will drop me off at a bookstore.    It is just good to get out when I can.
Redge is home from the hospital and on the mend from pneumonia.  He called me last night and sounded good.  I tell you they have some miracle drugs out there now.  We are lucky to live in a time when they can save lives.

Footnote:  Wendi is her granddaughter.  Aunt Rosalee is married to her mother's half-brother and he is not able to drive anymore.  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby.  Missionary society is a function of her Baptist church.

My footnote:   I am getting stronger every day.  I am having a little trouble finding the right things to eat.  I feel sick at my stomach all the time.   Don't know if it is my gallbladder or side effects from the surgery.   The heart DR. wants me to wait till Aug. to have the gallbladder removed.  I am just hoping it doesn't act up before that.   I go to the Cardiologists today for a check up.  I should be able to drive in a couple of weeks and can start some rehab after that.    Rachel and Hope came to Leah's Sat. and Sun. and Rachel cooked for us.  Leah and Leslie take care of me during the week.  So I have lots of attention.
