Friday, 1980    I washed & mowed some, picked a few strawberries, washed the car, went for eggs.

Footnote:  What a busy day.  Can't believe there were strawberries that early.

My footnote:   I am still waiting for surgery on my heart.  They have me on the schedule for tomorrow, Friday, May 24.  I feel fine, just getting a little nervous with all the waiting.  The girls come and stay everyday for a long time, so we have had some good bonding.  Leslie is home also so she keeps us laughing.   She passed her boards on Monday and is now looking actively for a job in Ky. or Ohio.   I feel so bad for her as it is today that she and I were planning to leave for Paris, France and Venice, Italy for a few days.  We had planned this trip for over 4 years and my health got in the way.  Much better that I get this taken care of here instead of somewhere in Europe.  We will reschedule the trip for later.   Thanks for all the prayers.

Wendi, I am so sorry I am not able to spend the weekend celebrating with you and all the  family.  I know my cousins are all there and having a great time.  Just wish I could have been there , I am in spirit.   Your gift is still at my house, I will mail it when I am able.   Congratulations and I hope you are very happy.      Love to all,  Pat

Monday,  Fair,  hot.   I washed , mowed and hoed in the garden.  We went to Ben-Hur  to get some welding done on the lawn mower.   Stopped at Hospital to see Pearl.  She is a little better.  To  revival tonight.

Footnote:  Ben Hur is a small community about 15 miles west of her house. Hospital is in Pennington Gap and Pearl is her cousin.

Footnote about my life:  Most of you know but I will recap what I can remember.  I was sick after Leslie's graduation.  I slept most of last Saturday, May 11.  On Sunday, May 12,  Leah came to check on me and when she walked in she said ,"you are yellow" .  So we went to the nearest emergency room at the hospital.  I was in severe pain in my stomach.
After many tests, they decided I had a gallstone that was loose and blocking the natural flow of fluids between pancreas, liver and gall bladder.  They wanted to know  how much liquor I drink - liver a little enlarged.  They admitted me  and the ball got dropped somewhere between stomach dr. and gall bladder dr.  So I  got no attention Monday.  still in pain and yellow.
Finally late Tue they decided they would remove the gall stone which they did.  When I woke up still in recovery, I told them I could not breathe and the nurse said "Yes you can".  So they took me to my room and now they call in a cardiologists to clear me for removal of the gall bladder on Monday .  He looks at xrays and orders other tests which I had a really hard time getting thru as I my breathing is getting worse.  They did the tests and sent me home about 3 PM Wed.  I had told everyone who came in the room that I couldn't breathe and had a fever.  they gave me two Tylenol  and sent me home.   Leslie took me and stayed with me till about 9 PM.  During the time she is there, I am breathing harder and harder and my feet are swelling.
I fell asleep on the sofa for about an hour.  Went upstairs to bed and was so breathless I thought I couldn't make it.  I never was able to lay down.  Sat on side of bed till 6 AM and called Leah.  Leslie came and took me back to emergency room.  Heart beat is out of control going as high as 210.  Leslie thought I was going to die but she never let me know.  They took more xrays and said I had had a heart attack.
They got me to a room where I was not allowed to move .  Finally they got a couple IV going and it begin to slow the heart rate down but it was in the high 170
most of the day. I  couldn't lay down  all day.  I began to feel better about 11PM and fell asleep.  The nurse came in at midnight and said the heart got back in rhythm about midnight.
So about 1PM Thursday they did a angigram (spelling) a found my heart is one big mess and needs a lot of work.  They put me in an ambulance immediately and sent me to the Mercy Fairfield hospital.  I am here now and just resting as they can't do the open heart until they are sure the gall bladder mess is healed.    Hoping the surgery will take place on Tuesday.  Will keep you posted.

Sunday, Fair cool to hot.   Janice was home.  We went to the nursing home for Mother's day celebrating.  Then on to Penn to see Pearl who is better.  to church.

Footnote:  Janice is her daughter who lives about 9 miles away.  Pennington is a town with a  hospital about 8 miles West.  Pearl is her cousin who has had a stroke.

My notes:  Leslie's graduation was so great - 8 in the class = only 1 guy and he took most of the awards.  Leslie got an award also and that was exciting.  The students had to research and write an extensive report on a medical problem.   She did hers on diabetes and demonstrated the pump, which she wears.  I know she worked really hard on it and that was nice to see her rewarded for the hard work.    We all went out to eat afterwards and I either ate something, got the Noro virus or having a gall bladder attack.  I have never been so sick - thought I was going to die about 2 AM.  So much pain in the middle of my chest,  stuff coming from both ends.  I am just now getting out of bed and am still sick.  Rachel brought me some gingerale and I have been able to keep it down.  I have so much going on this week that I just have to feel better tomorrow.  going to the hospital if not better tomorrow.

Thursday.  Clear to cloudy.  I washed three loads of clothes.  Visited Minnie Hobbs this eve.  Went to Lizzie's for eggs.  Finished mowing the lawn.

Footnote:  Minnie Hobbs is a neighbor and fellow church member.  Lizzie is her neighbor also and she must have a lot of chickens.  She was part of a large family that lived on the back road - the Sturgills.

My note:   When Mother and I went on our outing thru Olinger, we came out at Dry Branch (near Pennington).  We drove up  to where Richard Shuler is living in his mother's (Aunt Virginia) house on the "back road".  We drove from his house on the back road and came out where Aunt Estelle's house used to be.
As we drove by, I noticed  a "For  Sale" sign on the old, old run down Sturgill house.  Lot of houses build up around that neighborhood - Lizzie's house is still there.   Albert Giraffe's son was hoeing in his garden - looked just like Albert.    The space where Uncle Jennings had his garden had been plowed and looked like it was ready to be planted.  Uncle Jennings trailer is still there and the grounds around it looked very nice.
Just thought I'd let you all know about the place for sale in case you are interested...  The mountain behind the house is big, tall and beautiful - full of walnut trees I bet.
