Sat.  snow melting.  got up to 40 degrees.    Millard & I stayed in except I got the paper and mail.  Jennings was in a minute.  Rosemary called tonite.  Had several phone calls today.

Friday  Snow, cold.  Probably 4 inches.  We both are full of colds, so had to stay in.  I am almost afraid to go to bed tonite.  Jennings come down and had to wait for the snow to melt some before he could get back up the hill, so he ate lunch with us. 


Footnote:  Jennings is her brother who lives just up the hill.  Any excuse to eat lunch with her.  She was a good cook and always had food to fix. 


My note:   For those of you reading this,   I am hoping the weekend of July 18 will be good for most everyone to gather in Kingsport, Tn. for a family reunion.   I can check with the Hampton Inn if there are any of you that want me to try to get a group rate.  You can let me know.   I will make more plans as the time gets closer as to a schedule for meals, etc.    I will send out an email to those I have addresses for as I think there are some people who don't read the blog - WHAT???   Please put it on your calendar and try to come - We need to get together this year.

Thurs. 1981  Fair warmer and turned cold & snowed.  We had Rainbow cleaner salesman & talked us into one.  I run down to the store for cold pills. 

Footnote:  Not sure what a Rainbow cleaner is but they  had one.   Sounds like the weather in 1981 was not much different in what we are having in 2014.  

My Note:   What about "Global Warming" - where is Al Gore when we need him???   I had Hope yesterday as she was out of school AGAIN.  The school district has now used all their snow days so the kids will have to make up the days at the end of the year.  Anyway, we went to T.J.Maxx - she always finds toys there and I usually find something.  So I have been wanting a LeCruiset pot.  They are very expensive, some as high as $179.00 at Williams Sonoma.  I found a small one for $29.00 on sale.  Nothing wrong with it.    It is enamel covered wrought iron pot.  I found a bread receipt  that you make in the oven in this heavy pot.   So I am off to the store to get some yeast and fresh flour.  I will mix it up today and bake it tomorrow as it has to set for 12 hours or more.  I'll let you know if it is any good.

Wed.  1981   Fair but cold.  We had a Dr. appointment at 11 oclock.  got called at 3 and out at 4.  Sure tiresome.  I went to prayer meeting tonite. 

Footnote:  What a shame that they would have to spend the whole day waiting in a Dr. office.   Hoping it was just a checkup and they were not sick.  I guess it was standard procedure back then.  Not enough Drs. for everyone.   


So I am putting a couple dates out there in hopes we can go ahead and make plans for a summer get-together.   How about July 11, 12, 13  or July 18, 19, 20.   I am applying to art shows for the summer and don't want to apply for July if we can get together.     Let me know if one dates works better than the other.      Still freezing here -  it was -5 this morning and that was the temp, windchill was even worse.  So I am staying put.

Tues.  1981  Cloudy to sunshine.  60 degrees.  nice day.  I went down to Pearl's a while this eve.  Then we walked up to Jennings & back.  Had a salesman who was preacher and we had a hour & half talk.  Radious & Walter come a while late. 


Footnote:  Pearl Barkley is her cousin who has had a stroke and I think she was home-bound at this time.  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby.  Radious and Walter are neighbors who check in often.   

I had a good show - Saturday was slow with only a few people who were brave enough to come out in the snow and cold.  Sunday was a good day - roads were clear and we had a nice crowd of people who bought some of my things.  Temp was in the 40's yesterday and today it is 8 degrees with wind chill down to -15 right now.  I am staying put - Leah called and wants me to come over to her house but I have food and am going to stay here and tough it out.   Lots of things to do - some ideas for new projects and now is the time I have to try new things.  Hope you all are staying warm.   I only heard from Redge & Reka about the get-together this summer.   When you all get around to reading the blog, let me know if there are dates you prefer - otherwise I will just pick a date and hope you all can make it.    Love to see each and everyone of you.

Monday. 1981   Cloudy  59 degrees.  coolish.    I sewed some.  We walked up to Jennings.  I rode up the road late.  Leah Ann Statzer broke her left wrist while playing at school today.

Sunday, 1981  50 degrees.   pretty sunshiny.  Janice & Wendi were home.  We stayed put all evening for Janice was on call.  Redge called tonite while I was gone to church.  Jennifer had been sick again. 


Footnote:  Janice is her daughter and Wendi is her granddaughter.  When she says they "were home", she means they had come to her house to visit.  Janice worked at the Lonesome Pine Hospital.  Redge is her son who lives in Charlotte, NC.  Jennifer is Redge's oldest daughter. 


Well, I had to sweep 5" of snow off  the car AGAIN.  Just heard on the news that we have had 35" of snow already.  It was 15 degrees too and I drove the 45 miles to New Richmond, Ohio on snow covered roads - never saw the blacktop.  Not much traffic at 8:00 AM so didn't have any trouble moving right along.  Got all the dolls on display and all my other stuff.  Had to carry the boxes of stuff thru snow that was over my boot tops.   We had a few people in and I sold a few things.  My friends who live in the church, prepared a really nice dinner.  The guys had to push my car out of the snow as it was stuck.  Roads were clear driving home.    Show opens at noon tomorrow and I am hoping we have more people in.   Enjoyed the day.

Sat. 1981  50 degrees.    Fair a nice day.  I dried clothes outside.  We took a pill and Millard messed some clothes.  I cooked some for Jennings.  We rode down to the store late.   Rosemary called this morning.

-2 here this morning.  I have to get in the garage and carry my dolls in boxes to the car so I can go to New Richmond, Ohio for a show Sat. and Sun.  It is supposed to snow both days so don't know how many people will be out.   I will be inside in this old church where one of my artist friends lives and has her studio there.  I have done this show before and it is always cold but I sell some things..    Hope you all are warm.       I am interested in knowing if you all are interested in coming to Kingsport sometime this summer for a get together.  Mother will be 95 in July but says she does not want a party.  We can all be together though.   Let me know by email statzerart@aol.com if you have a date that will work or dates that won't work.   June - July or August.

Friday 1981  Cloudy wet  not so cold.   I had a lot of wash to do.  Bro. Zion, Gene & Val Lipps all come.  Gene took our lawn mower to have it fixed.  Jennings eat soup with us.  We rode to Big Stone and out to Janice's a minute.

April 19, 1986 Daniel Reasor and Mary married  (son of Kenneth and Jeaneene)  age 24.  Daniel was borned Nov. 26, 1962.  Had a baby boy spring 1991 March,   Alexander Jennings (Daniel's baby).

Thurs 1981   cold wet cloudy.    Edith come & spent the morning with us.  Millard was sick all day because his bowels wouldn't move.   He drank Barium to have a stomach xray Monday.  Finally got it cleared. 


Footnote:   Edith is her sister who lives in Big Stone, about 9 miles away.  Millard is her husband who is still not well it seems. 


My note:  I made it back to Cincinnati about 5PM yesterday (Tue.).  It snowed or sleeted on me almost all the way.  5" of snow on the ground in Cincinnati.  When I left Kingsport, it was 45 degrees and when I got here it was 10 degrees.  I stopped in Corbin for gas and I think the windchill had to be -20.   I stopped at Leah's and spent the night and now I am headed to my house and hope everything is OK.  It is -5 here this morning.  I don't remember having a January like this in a long time.  The kids are out of school again.   Hope you are all well and staying warm.

Wed. 1981  wet   rained all nite.    I washed a load of clothes.  Cut out a dress.  Had to run to Pennington early for Millard a Fleetenema.  He couldn't get his bowels to move after drinking Barium for his stomach exray.  They didn't find anything wrong with his stomach  Jennings was in.

Tuesday 1981  cloudy to rain.    Brought Millard home from the hospital after 11 days.  I went to the bank, after I got his dinner.   Roy & Jennings were in.     Todays history:  52 hostages released from Iran after more than 400 days.  Ronald Reagan inaugurated as President, Bush as vice-president.  Jimmy Carter stepped down from presidency.

Monday 1981  warmer.  I went to the hospital early thinking Millard might get home.  He got a xray in time for lunch.  I visited with Hazel Crusenberry a long while.  walked up to Jennings late.

Sat. 1981   Had snow, maybe 1 inch looked rough & cold.  Reba was going to a funeral so I went to Pennington with her.  Stayed with Millard a couple of hours then attended Barbara Wardup Youngs dads funeral.  We come by Long John Silvers and eat and home.  Janice come later and we went back to see Millard.  Later I was up to Jennings a minute.

Friday 1981   Fair.  Snow flurries & got colder as the day progressed.   I went to the hospital about 10.  eat there.  Come home about 2 .  I'm worn out.  Lizzie, Maudie Ellen , Radious & Walter all come awhile.  Millard should come home, but the Dr's crossed us up and he has to wait until Monday for xrays of his stomach.  

Footnote:  Lizzie Sturgill and Maudie Ellen are her neighbors as are Radious and Walter.  Millard is her husband who is in the hospital.      Sounds like Millard is getting better.

Thurs. 1981  Snow.   I was real surprised at snow this morn.  Jennings was down to bring his tape player for me to take to the hospital with me.  I got down there about 11.  Had a lunch with them, helped Millard get a bath.  Ruth & George Roberts were down there visiting, also Bro. Zion.  Wendi had a baby sitter today.   She was Angela - colored Margarette's daughter. 

Footnote:  Jennings is her brother (who doesn't like to wait to make sure she gets in the house) and he lives nearby.  Ruth & George Roberts are neighbors and old friends of hers.  Bro. Zion is a preacher.  Wendi is her granddaughter and today she had a babysitter. 


Just a quick note for those of you who know Bill Roberts (Ruth and George's son) - according to Doug, Bill has been told he has about 6 months to live.  He has cancer and it is in several organs already.   His wife died a couple of years ago and  he has had a lady living with them and taking care of his 50 year old retarded daughter.  She is not able to do anything for herself.   Everyone is concerned as to what will happen to Missy.  It is very sad.

Wed. 1981   Warmed up to 40 degrees today.  I didn't go to the hospital until after noon.  Curt, Martha & Reba all visited.  I went to church with Jennings tonite.  He is real protective.  He let me out and took off before I could get in the house.   I get bad feelings sometimes.

Tues. 1981  Fair  a little warmer.   I went to the hospital about 10:00.  Had to go to the grocery store.  I went over to the hospital for Marie Davis's sisters funeral.  Bud Culbertson preached it.  He come back to visit us after he went to the graveyard.  Millard is feeling good. 

Footnote:   I remember there was a family named Davis that lived in her neighborhood, but I don't know Marie.  Bud Culbertson was a preacher and friend of hers.  Millard is her husband. 



I am in Panera's in Kingsport.   I here visiting Mother and she is doing as good as she did 20 years ago.  Just moves slow because of her knee and she bangs the walker into every wall and door.  But she gets around, pays her bills and takes care of her own medicine.  She is getting hard of hearing, so I have to talk loud or repeat everything.   She walked the entire grocery store and looked at and touched everything there.    So I will try to get here to post again but don't know.  Janice is coming over Saturday to spend the day - we will go junking and have lunch.

Monday  1981  very cold still plenty snow.  Our water was frozen this morn.  Jennings come and thawed it out.  We wrapped a lot of stuff.  I went to the hospital about noon.  Millard feels very well.  Come home early for I was tired.

I am leaving this morning to drive to Tenn. to visit with Mother.  I have had the stomach flu all week but it is better now.  I feel weak as I have lost some weight and was dehydrated.  Probably should wait a couple days but Mother is expecting me.     So if the posts to the blog are slow coming next week, it is because I have to go to Panera's to write.  Mother doesn't like it when I spend time doing my thing.  But I will catch up when I do get to write.

Sunday 1981     Snowy.  I went to the hospital about 9:30 and it snowed until noon  Then cleared.  Millard feels very well.  Janice & Wendi come, also Bro. Zion.  We come home about 4:30 and they eat before going home.  I had several phone calls.  We called Rosemary.

Sat.  1981   very cold.  I washed a load of towels and cleaned the house some.  Then went to the hospital.  Gave Millard a bath & shampoo.  Stayed all day because no one visited or called.  Janice finally dragged in about 4:30.  My feelings were hurt.  Jennings went to see him tonite.

Friday 1981  Fair cold.  plenty snow.   Millard was sick so I took him to emergency room and they put him in the hospital.  I came home & eat & changed clothes & went back until 5 o'clock.

Nice day here - about 30 and no wind.  So hopefully the worst is over for now.  I will probably go back to my house tonight.  I will pack my stuff and hopefully head to Tenn. on Sat. if all is well.  Max finally went back to school today and Leah and Kenny are at work.  Leslie is still sleeping as she doesn't have to go to work until 3 today.  Going to get my hair cut at 2 and then I will fix dinner here tonight and then go home.    Hope all is well with you all.   Shanna, I hope you had a good birthday.

Wed. 1981  3 to 4 inches of snow.  We had Wendi.  I made my red skirt then sewed on my quilt pieces.  Jennings was in.  Janice came for Wendi.  We couldn't get our car out of drive way of course.  We didn't even consider  prayer meeting tonite. 


Footnote:  Wendi is her granddaughter and I am guessing the school was closed because of the snow.  Jennings is her brother who lives close by.  Janice is her daughter and Wendi's mother.  They live about 9 miles away.  The weather in 1981 sounds about like it is today.  snow and very cold.    I have a quote that I embroider on the doll body that says "Snow and adolescence are the two things that will disappear if you  wait long enough".      So you know that in about 6 months we will be looking for a cool spot under the shade tree.

Tues. 1981   I went to Pennington to grocery store early.  I sewed some.  Had to stay with Wendi a while this evening.  About dark it started snowing and come a good one.  Emmitt Blair had a stone removed from his bladder I hear.

We had a little snow last night but the temp went from 40 degrees at 4PM to -1 about midnight.   It has been -1 to 1 all day.  The sun did not help at all.    I am in the house with Leah and Max all day and we are warm and have plenty of food.  Leslie had to go to work at 9AM but is back home now- about 4PM.  Kenny went out to work at 3 AM and is not home yet.  That is sure a long day for him.  We are having porkchops for dinner so all is well here.  Hope you are all warm where you are.

Monday 1981  4 degrees  very cold warmed up to 30 degrees.  I sewed some, worked in house.  Walked up to Jennings.  Stopped in at Mrs. Wards.  Took her mail in and read her meter for her.  Radious and Walter were here when I come back.   Wendi called that her basketball team won tonite and she made 6 points.  


Footnote:   weather is very close to what is happening today.   Jennings is her brother who lives nearby.  Mrs. Ward lives in an old brick house that is on the same road as Jennings house.  Radious and Walter are neighbors.  Wendi is her granddaughter and I am guessing this is just the beginning of the thousands of points she made during her basketball career.   

Hope you all are staying warm and safe.  I am going to Leah's in a little while as it is going to be -4 with windchill of - 15 later today and then tomorrow is going to be even worse  - 35 windchill.  My house is not the warmest as I need some new windows and it is just hard to heat.  It will be warmer later in the week and I am hoping I can head to Tennessee.   I have one doll to finish and I am done with orders for awhile.

Sunday 1981  Fair very cold.   Janice & Wendi at home.  We stayed in all evening.  To church.  Jack Blair took Maebird to Dayton today.   Emmitt Blair went to Harlan Hospital. 


Footnote:  Janice is her daughter and Wendi is her granddaughter.  Maebird Blair is her neighbor who has had surgery.  Jack Blair is Maebird's son, I am guessing.  Dayton, Ohio is a town about 300 miles away from Deep Springs.  It is a long drive for someone who is sick.  I can't imagine what Maebird must have been feeling - so sick and having to leave her home and community - must have been really hard for her.  She was a quiet woman as I remember so she probably didn't complain.   I believe that Jake Blair was Maebird's husband and he must have already passed away.  Emmitt Blair was Jake's brother, I am guessing here.

Sat.  1981  Fair cold, sunshiny & warmer.  I went to Big Stone & Appa. alone.  stopped at Edith's a minute.  Shopped all the stores, and got groceries.  Heard Maebird Blair was brought home tonite and Jack would take her on to Dayton tomorrow.  Heard Emmett Blair had cancer.  Allso his sister Margarette.  Sure makes us sad. 


Footnote:  Big Stone Gap is a town about 9 miles away and Appalachia is 2 miles from Big Stone.  Edith is her sister who lives in Big Stone Gap.  Maebird Blair is her neighbor.  Jack is Maebird's son, I think.  He must live in Dayton, Ohio.  Not sure just who Emmett Blair is or Margarette.

Friday, 1981    Sunshiny cold.   We have Wendi.  I washed and hung out clothes.  Jennings was in awhile.  We called Lucille tonite and Ralph had got thru his surgery fine and Lucille's fleebitis was better.

My Note:  Snowing and snowing and going to be 9 degrees here tonight.   Was 40 degrees yesterday.  What the heck - I hate the winter.  Don't mind being in the house for days, just hate the cold.   Now Hope has called and wants me to pick her up - she is at work with Rachel and is ready to go home.  So I will clean off the car and go get her.   I took her and Max to Dave and Busters  ( big game place) yesterday and they had a great time.  Took them 2 hours to spend $35.00 (a gift card that I gave each of them for Christmas).  Can you imagine that neither of their Mothers wanted to go with us.  We had a good time and they were so good.  Then we had Long John Silvers fish for our late lunch.  So I gotta go get the car cleaned off.  Hope you all have a great day.

Jan. 1  1981  (Thurs)    Cloudy not so cold.    Reba come for most of the afternoon.  I took some things up on the hill to her renters this morning.  I went to the Magic Mart late and over to Betty's for milk.

My Note:   Well, here we go with another year.  I am hoping for better health this year and I hope the same for each of you who keep up with me and Aunt Estelle's writings.  This is something like the 677th day I have recorder from her journal and hopefully I can continue till I have all three years finished.

1980 March 26  Estelle entered Indian Path Hospital at Kingsport had a tumor off ear drum March 27  come home March 30.

June 22, 1977  We started going to Pennington to Dr. Taylor.  We like him.
