Clear.  20 degrees  Still snow on the ground.  We had Wendi.  Reba was in a while.   I went to the Cas Walker store late, come by to see Ruth a minute.  She went back to the Doctor this morning but didn't tell us a thing.  Stopped at Uncle Millard's a minute.

Footnote:   Wendi is her granddaughter - no wonder Wendi is so smart, it is all that homeschooling she got.   Reba is her sister-in-law.  Ruth is her sister-in-law.  Uncle Millard is her uncle as he was the half-brother to her mother.

Headed to Tenn - it is raining and I hate driving in the rain.  I forgot to get a book on tape so it will be a long trip.   Hope to see Leslie for lunch in Lexington then on to Mother's for a few days.  So if the posts are not regular, I will catch up.  I have to go to Panera's to get on the computer but I will when I get a chance.

Happy Birthday to Janice Gail Ely Collier.  Just another year.
I'm going to drive down to Mother's tomorrow (Wed.).  If the weather is nice hopefully you can come to Kingsport, Janice and we can go junkin' Saturday or Friday if you are off.   I'll call or you call me..   Hope to see you.

Snow.  22 degrees.  Snow more snow.  The roads are all icy and more snow.  No church.  Made a long day.  Jennings & Elizabeth were in late.  Rosemary called this evening.  Last winter when we had so much snow on a Sunday we couldn't go to church.  Everette, Ruth & Smith walked out for a visit and up to Jennings before lunch.

Footnote:  Jennings is her oldest brother and Elizabeth is his wife.  Rosemary is her daughter that lives in New Mexico.  Everette is her youngest brother and Ruth is his wife and Smith is their youngest son.  They all live nearby - within walking distance.   They all go to the same church so I guess they missed seeing each other at church, so they had to walk to visit.

Tomorrow is Janice Gail Ely Collier's birthday - don't forget to send her a birthday wish.  We hope she has many, many more.

Clear, snow.  22 Degrees.  Pretty clear morning, sunshiny.  I walked up to the trash can.  Millard took a long walk.  I sewed some on my quilt.   Pearl, Gene and Val come by awhile.  Late we rode down to Uncle Ray Baker's.

Footnote:   Millard is her husband - pretty cold for him to take a long walk.   Pearl is Pearl Barkley, her cousin who lives about 8 miles away.  Gene and Val are Pearl's caregivers.  Uncle Ray Baker was a half-brother to her mother, Lula Baker Reasor.

Cold here again today and gray right now.   I'm headed off to New Richmond, Ohio for the last day of the show.  We had a steady crowd yesterday and I sold a few things.   Hope today is better.

Snowing here - lightly- this morning.  Cold about 23 degrees.  The ground is frozen but supposed to go up to 50 on Monday.   At least we don't have the ice they are having in  Tenn. and Virginia.

Snow.  Cold    We didn't get up very early.    A. T. brought Wendi.  Didn't look too bad that erly but soon  started snowing and blustery.  Got pretty rough.

Footnote:  A.T. is Wendi's Dad and they live about 9 miles away in Big Stone Gap.   I am guessing that Wise County schools were closed because of the coming snow.  Wendi is in school in Wise County.    We always had a lot of snow days when I was in school there.  The school buses couldn't get around very well on the country roads when the weather was bad.

Very cold here again today.  It was 19 last night when I got home from Rachel's.  Hope is much better and was going back to school today.  I am staying in today - got lots of things to finish before the show on Saturday and Sunday.  Supposed to snow tomorrow (Friday) so don't know if we will see many people at the show.  Got to make cookies, brownies and some cheese roll for the people who do come.

14 degrees here today.  Hope is sick so I am going to stay with her while Rachel goes to work.  Not looking forward to getting in the car at this temp.

Footnote:  Janice is her daughter and Wendi is Janice's daughter, Estelle's granddaughter. They live in Big Stone Gap - about 9 miles away.  I wonder what pictures she was looking at.

I made a mistake in yesterday's blog.  Rosemary was married in 1959, not 1979.   Thanks Rosemary for pointing that out.  I try to proofread my entries for mistakes but I missed that one.    The one thing that drives me crazy is misuse of grammar and misspelled words.  Some people don't know the difference in the word your and you're and there and their  - there are many others.      They must have missed Miss Cox's 10th grade English class.    So now I have to get off the soapbox and get some work done.  I have a 2 day show this weekend - indoors, thank goodness.    Snowing and about 25 degrees here.  Going down to 5 tonight - brrrrr.

Clear, cloudy.  10-12 degrees.  I went down to Mr. White's to take some things for a family who burned out early this morn.  We went to Appa. in afternoon with our TV and to the grocery store.  Later I went out to Lizzie's for eggs and stopped at Jennings.

Footnote:  I'm not sure who Mr. White was other than a neighbor in the community.  Appa. is Appalachia, Va., a small town about 10 miles Northeast of Deep Springs.  Remember when there was such a thing as a TV repair man?  Now we just go buy a new, bigger  TV when the old one stops working - and in some homes, the TV doesn't even have to stop working - just time for a bigger screen.    Lizzie is her neighbor who has chickens.  Jennings is her brother and he does live near Lizzie.

Sorry to be so late today.  I had to leave the house early to take Hope (Rachel's 8 year old) to school as she had a late start and Rachel had to go to work.  Then I had errands to run and was just very late getting back home.

Footnote:   Wendi is her granddaughter who lives in Big Stone Gap, Va. which is in Wise County.   What, she washed and hung sheets outside to dry - it is 6 degrees.   Must have warmed up quickly or she is one tough woman.   Curt is her brother-in-law.  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby.

Here are some interesting things I found in a little Southern States notebook at my Mother's house.  Those of you from the area know what Southern States was.  Others  - Southern States was a big store that sold feed for cattle and all the other things that were needed to run a farm - fencing, posts, wire, cutters - whatever was needed.

Put a book of matches (matches up) and then plant peppers cabbage tomatoes
Don't plant onions & peas close to each other.
Plant radishes under squash & cucumbers.
Burn an old leather shoe or glove about every 30-45 days   will keep the snakes away.
plant little onions in close to rose bush and no bugs will bother.

Happy Birthday to Travis Edward Shuler - # 40.

Footnote:  Jennings is her brother and Elizabeth is his wife and they live nearby.  Olinger is a small community about 5 miles away from Deep Springs.  The Deep Springs Baptist church had a baptismal inside the church - they believe in full immersion in water.  I am guessing the Olinger church didn't have such a facility.  I wonder where they baptised all the other believers.  Maybe in the river at Olinger.  I remember going to a "baptising" in the river at Dryden, near where Larry Flanary lived.   I think it is the same place that Larry's  small daughter drowned.   Now the bridge that passes over that river was dedicated to our great-grandfather, Dr. Daniel Sheffey Reasor and bears his name - thanks to the efforts of Stephen Reasor.     Mrs. White is a friend and neighbor.  Can't believe she missed church.
