Monday  16 below zero this morn.

got to 20 above up in day.  Couldn't crank car early.  Millard hitchhiked to work.  I got it cranked in afternoon.  Went to see Aunt Rose a minute.

My note:   well January was one COLD  month in 1966 and also in 2016.     I will probably try to post while I'm in Kingsport if there is time.   I have to go to Panera's or maybe I can post if I am at Doug's.    I am hoping that Leah, Leslie and our new little boy, Lane will come down for a couple of days.  Leslie wants to get pictures of the 5 generations.    So Mother will be happy to see them.    Stay warm and safe as we try to get thru this winter.

Friday  Fair  cold.

I went as Millard did and on to Norton and spent the day with Janice.  Back to Big Stone and home with Everette.

Footnote:   Everette is her brother who lives across the road from her house.  She would ride home with him as he got off work earlier than Millard did.

My Note:   well we have a couple of inches of snow and are expecting 5-9" tomorrow - Friday.   I guess the grocery will be mobbed today but not by me.  I have all I need for awhile.  I talked to Mother yesterday and they were getting a lot of snow.  She loves to watch it snow - me too as long as I don't have to get out in it.  I don't know how far south this round of snow is going but I believe it is a pretty big path and stretching south.  Maybe Charlotte and Atlanta???
I am not feeling so good this week - chest cold and my eyes are sticking shut.   I thought I had pink eye but Dr. says it is from the viral infection and has to run its' course.   Dr. Sutherland would have given me a show of penicillin and I would be better by now.    I am planning to go to Kingsport by  sometime next week - so hope the snow holds off one day so I can travel.   Doug is having major surgery Feb. 1 so I want to be there for that and to be with Mother so I can keep her informed.

Rosemary is having a rough time right now too, trying to take care of Carey.  He is still in the hospital and she has to travel a distance to see him.  I'm sure she is getting very tired of that by now.

So lets keep all these people and families in our prayers.

Footnote:  Virginia is Uncle Hop's daughter who lives near him.  She never learned to drive ( or was never allowed to drive - we will never know)   Timmy is Virginia and Harold's son.    Wonder who took him to the Dr. or did they take him from school.  She doesn't explain.

Footnote:  She visited all the towns today.  Virginia Ely is her sister-in-law and I believe she lived in Big Stone then.  Edith is her sister and she lived in Big Stone.  Roy is Edith's husband and he would go to the farm after he got off work at Pet Dairy.   He had black angus cows on the farm which was located on the back road across the road from Aunt Estelle's house.  So she left the car for Uncle Millard to get home after work in Big Stone and would ride with Roy.

Wed.  Rain all day

Our tobacco was sold today.  The Wells boys picked up the check.  I went to Big Stone with them to get the check cashed.  Ruth & I visited Mrs. Daughtery this evening.

Footnote:  Would be interesting to know how much the tobacco sold for.  I know it wasn't nearly enough for 8-9 months worth of work and hard work too.    Then they had to share the payoff with the workers who processed the tobacco.    I wonder how those workers lived thru the months of work for no immediate pay.  Somehow they all made it.  Certainly better planners than we are today.  I don't know many people who could go 6 months with no income.

Betty Belle Trasper (?) come about 2:00 o'clock this morn in labor and we got Ruth to take her to the hospital.  A baby girl was borned about 2 hrs. later.  Name Yvonne Dee Trosper (?).

Footnote:   I cannot make out the spelling of the name in this entry.  I don't know who this gal is or where she might have lived.  Anyway  Aunt Ruth did a good thing by getting her to the hospital.  She should have named the baby girl Ruth.

Sunday  Rainy

Steve, Sandra & Smith come in afternoon.  Reba & Edith & Roy come awhile.  Janice & Sammy went home late.

Footnote:    Happy New Year to each of you that follow this blog information.  I hope we all have good health and happiness during this year.       My mother, Edith Shuler - most of you know her as Aunt Edith will be having her birthday on July 16 and it is a Saturday.   She will be 97 -still living at home and seems to be doing very well.   She looks forward to Janice coming on Saturday and taking her out to eat and to the grocery - and they go lots of other places too.    So I will be home to help her celebrate and I thought if any of you all want to join the celebration, I would let you know now.    We could make a weekend out of it like we did a couple of years ago.    I will reserve some rooms at the hotel just in case.

I will be going to be with her in a couple of weeks as Doug will be having major surgery and I know she will be a nervous wreck.  I will try to keep you posted on Doug or you can call my phone or Mother's phone.      Try to stay healthy and happy as we journey into another year of unknowns.
