I done some housework.  To church tonite.

Footnote:  We all need a nice rainy day every now and then.  Just to stay in.  I wouldn't choose "housework" though.  Maybe a nice nap.

I went to pepper market.  Then ironed and went up to Big Stone awhile.

Footnote:   I sure don't understand that statement about "pepper market".  Could surmise all sorts of things.  Big Stone is a town about 9 miles away.

Tues.  Fair  Hot

I dug some potatoes.  done my ironing and went up to Aunt Minnie's awhile tonite.

Footnote:  Aunt Minnie (I can't think of her last name) lived nearby and I don't know why she called her Aunt.  I think she was the Aunt of Carey Drew, Rosemary's husband.  I know they are somehow connected.

Had a really good two day show in Lexington.  I sold so many dolls that it will take me the next three weeks to restock.  I also have a lot of orders for dolls that I have to make and mail.  That is a good thing though.  Weather was hot but I was lucky enough to have been assigned a spot under the trees.  It makes my tent dark but I'll take that rather than the heat.     We were fine for two days until about 15 minutes before the show was over at 5:00, it started to rain.  Bummer as I had to pack the tent and it was wet, which means I had to leave it out on the driveway today to dry and then fold it up.  I got it all done and just rested today.

I helped Va Shuler dress chickens half a day.  Edith come too.  Washed in afternoon.

Footnote:   Virginia Shuler is Aunt Rose's daughter and she lives nearby.  Edith is her sister.  Wonder what they were doing with chickens that it took half a day.   I am sure that dressing a chicken meant they were killing and cleaning them.  Did they can them or freeze them and how many???   We got it made, we just go to the store and buy them with no feathers.  I guess I could pluck the feathers if I had to but don't think I would like doing it.  Think I would just eat veggies.

Footnote:   Millard is her husband and he works in Big Stone so she would ride with him and then take the car to go visit.  Malissa Reasor is a cousin.

My Note:   So I just realized that I skipped two days, the pages were stuck together in the book and I didn't realize it.  I'm posting both of them now.

I worked out, dug potatoes until dinner.  Went to Aunt Rose's at noon.  Picked up Stell Kelly tonite and took her up to the sale at Seminary.

Footnote:   Aunt Rose - we all know who she is by now.  Stell  Kelly is a friend and fellow church member who lives nearby.  Seminary is a community about 7 miles away and I believe it is where Maxfield's auction took place.

My Note:    I am packed and headed to Lexington, Ky. for two day show in the park.  I have done this show before and sometimes it is good and sometimes not.   The show I did last Sunday in Kettering Ohio was not so good.  Good crowd, no money and too old to be collecting.  I need people who are between 30  and 50 who are still working and have friends they want to spend money on or just collect for themselves.    So we will see - it is going to be hot but hopefully I'll have a tree nearby.

So I'm going ahead with the next three days and then start again on Monday when I get home.

We attended church & went up to Seminary homecoming this eve.  Reba, Curtis and Virginia visited after we got home.  Cass Reasor died in Florida on vacation (sudden).

Footnote:  Seminary is a community about 7 miles away.  They have a nice Methodist church which my granddaddy - Daddy Shuler - was a pillar, I think maybe a deacon but I'm not sure.  I know he was there when the doors opened.  Sad thing is that my grandmother, Mamie Shuler never got to go.  I believe she had to stay home and fix Sunday dinner for him and whoever showed up to eat.  I don't remember her ever going to church.

Reba is her sister-in-law and Curtis is her brother-in-law.  Virginia is Curtis's wife.  I remember Cass Reasor but not if he was a relative or not.

I dug some potatoes and done some house work.  Tonite we picked up Stell Kelly and went up to Maxfields to auction sale.   Mrs. Venus Wade died.

Footnote:   Wouldn't you love to have a skillet full of those new potatoes - cooked with lots of salt just the way she could make them.   Could eat them like candy.  Stell Kelly is a friend of hers who lives nearby.   Maxfields had a building full of stuff and he had an auction on Sat. night.   There were Wade's in her neighborhood but I don't recall who Venus was.

I have been keeping Hope this week and she likes to stay home after Rachel leaves for work.  I try to get there so she is not alone too long.  She is 10 years old and runs their house so she is OK.  I have a show in Kettering, Ohio (near Dayton) on Sunday so I am busy trying to finish dolls and cards for that.  Which is why I have been late in blogging.   I try to keep up but sometimes life gets in the way.

I went to the hospital and set with Aunt Rose.  Uncle Millard took me.

Footnote:   Aunt Rose is her mother's half-sister and Uncle Millard Baker is her mother's half-brother.  Rose and Millard are full sister and brother.  They were all Baker's as they have the same father - Ira Baker.  Lula Baker's mother - Rosanna Huff- died of flux when Lula (Estelle's mother) was just 4 years old.   Ira Baker married Julia Ann Wells and they had 7 children.  This is after he has already fathered 7 children by his first wife.  How in the world did they get by.    Three of the children he had with his first wife also died of flux at the same time as their mother died.  Now  he is left with 4 children so he found him another wife who happened to be the same age as the wife he just lost.   That woman took on him and those 4 children and then she had 7 more.  She lived to be 80 years old.  Proof that hard work never killed a good woman - she just got old.
