I went to the hospital and stayed with Aunt Rose a long time,  Millard and I went up to the sale awhile tonite.

Footnote:   Well we all know who Aunt Rose is by now.  Millard is her husband and I am guessing there was an auction sale someplace that they went to.

Well there you have the month of July finished and I am all caught up.  I will try to keep up once I get back home.

Thurs.  Sunshiny but cooler.

I went to the hospital and stayed with Aunt Rose about 5 hours.  Maybe she is getting along very well.

Footnote:   I wonder if they operated on Aunt Rose - surely they did but she doesn't say that.

Wed.  Fair   I went with Millard to town.  Saw the Dr. about my blood pressure.  This eve I plowed beans, corn and set out 6 tomato plants.  Went to the hospital.  Aunt Rose has ruptured appendix.  To church tonite.

Footnote:   Millard is her husband who works in Big Stone Gap.   Look at all this stuff she did after she had her blood pressure checked - I'm guessing it was in perfect numbers. mat I didn't know you could set out tomato plants in July but I guess you can.

I kept the car and went to the hospital to see Aunt Rose who is real sick.

Footnote:  I believe they had just one car and I guess Uncle Millard got a ride to work.   She sure kept a close eye on Aunt Rose.  Aunt Rose had two daughters and one son.  Her daughter, Julia was living in Washington, D. C.  and her daughter, Virginia, lived almost next door to her.  Her son lived near her too.

The Reasor Reunion at Jonesville.   Carol Ann Ely  & family come from Ind.  Zoe Reasor, Suzanne Slemp Foote & family from Mich. come.  About 80 in all attended.

Footnote:   Reasor is her maiden name and the family is large so they have a big get together every year at a park in Jonesville, Va.  - about 15 miles from her house.  The park had a nice swimming pool so the kids got to swim while the adults visited and ate.  The food was always plentiful and delicious.  I remember going and people would always say, "my how you have grown".  I always thought that was a funny thing for people to say.

I worked out some.  W. L. brought me a bushel of peaches and I worked in them some.

Footnote:   I'm not sure what she means by "worked out" but it is probably that she worked in the garden.   W. L. Barkley is the husband of Pearl Reasor Barkley (her cousin) and I guess they had peach trees on their farm.  I'm sure she canned most of them.

My note:   I found some delicious peaches at the farmer's market in Kingsport and I made three peach cobblers.  One of mother's neighbors had a death in his family so I made one for them and one for us and one to take to Doug and Linda's.   I think the peaches were from Georgia or South Carolina.   I'd like to have some of them canned for pie in the middle of the winter.

My note:   About as hot then as it is now.   I think the weather stays about the same as it has in years past.  I don't know that much about global warming but I hope the summers don't get much warmer.

Well, I'm back to where there is WiFi.  I am actually sitting in a lovely house on Norris Lake near New Tazwell, Tenn.   Everyone - Leah, Kenny, Leslie, Mike, Maddie, Amanda, Chris and his three children and one guest cousin are all out on the pontoon having a great time I'm sure.   I am in the nice cool house with Max.  He is in his room playing on the computer and I just finished making Peach cobbler and Macroni, tomato and cucumber salad.  My mother cooked a pot of green beans and made creamed corn for me to bring.  So we will have all that with Hot Dogs and hamburgers on the grill for our supper.   The house is lovely and very close to the water.  We will be here till Sunday.  I met up with them in Pigeon Forge and then we went to Gatlinburg where we all almost passed out from the extreme heat.  It was so bad.     So I will try to catch up on the blog while I'm here.

Janice & Sam come.  Janice and I washed.  They stayed all nite.

Footnote:   Janice is her daughter and Sam is Janice's  friend.  They live in Big Stone Gap (I think) or maybe it was Norton.   I was living in Whitesburg, Ky and moved to Richmond, Ky in 1965 so I wasn't around that much to remember who was living where.

Today is my Mother's 96th. birthday.   She is still living in her home by herself, paying her own bills and fixing her own medicine.  It is amazing how well she is doing.  Reads everything she can get her hands on, including those small print "do's and don't's that come with every prescription - who does that???   She gets a lot of help from Janice and Doug and her neighbors pitch in with little things like the newspaper and garbage cans and mowing the grass.   I try to clean out her fridge but I have to sneak to throw things away.  She checks the garbage can to see what I have pitched.   I'll be there to take her out to eat - she loves to eat out and she has a good appetite.    I know you all have sent her cards - she told me - and she loves each of them.  Thank you for doing that, it means a lot to her.  She has very few friends left that are near her age, so she has to count on the younger friends to send her cards and call.

Stephen & I worked out half a day.  Sewed some this evening.  Edith & Roy stopped a minute.  I went to see Aunt Rose tonite.

Footnote:  Stephen is her nephew and he lives TOO close - if he has to work in the field half a day.  He was about 13 years old in 1965.  Just kidding, I am sure Stephen was happy to help her.  Edith is her sister and Roy is Edith's husband.  They had a farm with cows in the backfield of the original Reasor farm.  It was close to where Estelle lived so they always stopped when they went to the farm.
Aunt Rose is her mother's half-sister and she lives on the back road.

Footnote:    That was an easy day for a Monday.

My Note:    I'll be heading to Tenn. Tue. or Wed. depending on when I get all these doll orders in the mail.  Mother's 96th Birthday is Thursday.  I hope she gets a lot of cards because she does look forward to the mail everyday.  In case you want to send one and don't have her address, it is 909 Edgewood Circle,    Kingsport, TN.   37663.

She was so excited that Janice and Sandra picked her up and took her to Lee County for the party at Aunt Rose's home.  Sally and Tim Shuler's daughter, Crystal, had the party.  She said they will be tearing down the homeplace.   Then Janice brought her back Friday night and stayed all night with her so they could do their Saturday thing.    Thanks so much Janice, she really is grateful to you for all you do for her.    Wish we were having a party this year  - we will next year and maybe a family reunion at the same time.

My Note:   I got an invitation to attend a party being held at the home where Aunt Rose Reasor Slemp and Uncle Hop Slemp  lived all their lives (that I knew them).  Sally Musick who is the daughter of James and Julia Slemp Musick and Crystal Shuler Huff and her husband sent the invitation.   Crystal is the daughter of Tim Shuler who is the son of Virginia Slemp and Harold Shuler.  She is married and has two daughters who are named Rachel and Leah.   I understand that Crystal is building a house on the hill above the barn beside Aunt Rose's home.   I am wondering if they are planning to tear down the old house.  I think it has been empty for a while now.  It was a nice house with big rooms and a second floor.  I loved the creek that ran thru the back yard.  Aunt Rose always had ducks and their poop was all over the yard.  I remember also she had gooseberry bushes along the walkway that lead up to the house.  I think the ducks liked the gooseberries.   Aunt Rose had a big collie dog who had pups on the screened in back porch of the house.  We went to see the puppies and I leaned down to pick one up and the mother dog stuck her tooth right thru my upper lip.  They had to take me to the hospital to get my lip sewed back together.  I have a scar still there.
We visited Aunt Rose and Uncle Hop quite often.   They were both very soft spoken, gentle people.

Friday  Fair  Hot.

I canned beans and planted some corn & beans.

My note:    I am going to pack the car, tent and all and head off to Louisville to be in a 4th of July show, Friday and Sat.  I have been in this show before so I know the layout.  It is a small show, about 100 artists, and the people who run it are very nice.  They have fireworks and ice cream.  Hope I sell a few things.
I spent the day Wednesday with Hope and Max.  Picked up Hope at the Y where she was with Rachel and then we drove to the ferry.  Max rode the ferry over the river to where we were waiting.
We went to Dave and Buster's where they played games for a couple of hours.  Max loves to go to Goodwill (looking for stuffed toys) so I took them to a big one and they both got a few things.  Then we got caught in traffic when we crossed the bridge between Indiana and Kentucky.  Next stop was Barnes and Noble where they both bought two books each - spent all my gift cards and I got nothing.  See what I do for my grandchildren.   After that we went to Texas Roadhouse where everybody had gathered for dinner and to hear Leslie and Mike announce the sex of their baby - IT"S A BOY.   We are all so excited.
