Cloudy, warmer.  38 degrees.  A.T. come to take bath and leave Wendi because of the water being off.  I washed some, walked up to Jennings.  Pearl, and Lipps come awhile.  Jennings & Elizabeth come tonite.  Got a notice we would ge the Black Lung pension next month.

Friday Feb. 29, 1980.  30 degrees cold all day.  We stayed in.  Betty Ramey, Lizzie Sturgill & Jennings were in.

1981.  Cloudy all day.  We visited Mr. and Mrs. White then rode over thru the back valley to Olinger.  Stoped at Edsil Huffs and he leased our tobacco.  Jennings was in after we got back and Kenneth called while he was here.

Footnote:  A.T. is Wendi's daddy.  Jennings is her brother.  Pearl is her cousin and the Lipps are the people who take care of Pearl.   Betty Ramey is her neighbor where she would get milk.  Lizzie is her neighbor and she would get her eggs from her.   Don't know who Mr. White was or Edsil Huff.  Friends of hers, I guess.  Olinger is a small community about 8 miles away.  Reba, Millard's sister had a general store in Olinger.  That is all I remember about things being in Olinger.  My granddaddy, Hugh Shuler, owned some land in Olinger and he left the land to my Daddy, which he sold.    Kenneth is Jennings son unless she is talking about a Kenneth that I don't know, which certainly is possible.

February 26, 1981, Thursday   beautiful, 65 degrees  sunshiny   Jennings and I went to Harlan for me to see the eye specialist.  Reba spent part of the evening with Millard.  Millard & I rode up to Rad's & Walters a minute late.

Footnote:   I am trying to post the two years and can't quite figure out how to do it.  I may change it tomorrow.   Seems simple enough to just put 1980 and 1981 on the same entry or should I make a seperate entry for 1981.    I am not going to explain the relationship of the people who have been mentioned in the last year.  I think everyone knows by now who each one is.  If someone new comes in, I will try to explain them.     If any of you faithful readers have any suggestions, please let me know.  Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I am staying at Leah's this week and taking care of Max.  There is not much taking care of him as he is pretty self sufficient.  Leah and Kenny flew to Las Vegas this morning and will be gone all week.  Leah is attending a real estate seminar and Kenny will be attending the casinos.     I will be sewing here all week.   So.  sorry I am so late in posting.

Footnote:  Wendi is her granddaughter.   Reba is her sister-in-law and neighbor.  Appalachia is a small coal-mining town about 10 miles northeast from her home.  Mrs. Jake Parsons (funny she doesn't call her by her name, just her husbands name -that was the way they did it)  is a neighbor and friend.  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby but they are in Florida for a visit.  Elizabeth is his wife.    Just a note about that name calling - my mother still has her bank account in Mrs. Roy Shuler and signs that name on almost everything she does.

This is a story about a trip to New Mexico that I found in her journal:

Footnote:  Millard is her husband.  Frank Reasor and Patty Reasor are the son and daughter of Nell and Frank Reasor who are neighbors and fellow church members.   Aubrey Hobbs is Patty Reasor's husband and also a neighbor and church member.   I think John is their son.    I wonder what was wrong with Millard.  Maybe it was just a check up.   Her house is located on the road which is how she would see Frankie going by.  He had to go past her house to get to the hospital in Pennington, where I am assumming Nell was having surgery.

Clear , rain.  26 degrees at morning, then got up into the 50's.  I went out to Lizzie's for eggs this morn, allso up to Sylvia Kelly's a while.  Millard wanted to get out so we rode to the Cas Walker store and got a few groceries.  I run in to Uncle Millards a minute.  Bud & Kenny were in the parsonage cleaning some and finishing their moving.  Seems Bud has left some hatred in the church.

Footnote:  Lizzie is her neighbor who has chickens.  Sylvia Kelly is a neighbor friend who also goes to the same church.   Millard is her husband, who she occassionally takes with her.  Cas Walker is a grocery store in Pennington Gap, about 8 miles away.  Uncle Millard is a neighbor and he is the half-brother to Estelle's mother, Lula Baker.  Bud is the preacher who has decided to leave the church and I think Kenny was his son.  Bud should have taken the hatred with him.

Footnote:  Janice and Wendi are her daughter and granddaughter who live in Big Stone Gap, about 9 miles away.  Bro Culbertson was the pastor of the Deep Springs Baptist church and it seems he has decided to move on.  Seems the church members don't understand and are not very happy about it.  Kenny and Janet must have been his son and wife.
