Clear.   I helped Randy in tobacco awhile.  Allso washed some.  Baked Jennings & us a pie.  Then took Aunt Rosalee to grocery store and visited up at Reba's a while.

Footnote:     Randy is the guy who is grading the tobacco, getting it ready for market.  Jennings is her brother who lives nearby.  Aunt Rosalee is married to Millard Baker, Estelle's mother's half-brother.  They also live nearby.   Reba is her sister-in-law who lives nearby too.    Just one big happy neighborhood and she kept a close eye on all of them.    Wish she was in my neighborhood and would bring me a pie.  Who does that anymore????

I'm  glad to get back home and get some things organized.  Still have no heat.  Gotta call someone, it is about 45 here  outside and inside.    Slept good though under that electric blanket.  Rainy here.

Clear, cloudy, rain.    I washed & dried a load of clothes.  Helped Randy in the tobacco a bit.  Canned 7 quarts of cushaws.

Footnote:    Don't know who Randy is other than the man who shared in the work it takes to get a field of tobacco to market.     What do you do with canned cushaws?

On another note:   We are still talking about Molly Delph Reasor.  It seems she was married to Letch Reasor - not Henderson.           I am back home now - Monday - Oct. 29.   Turned my heat on but can't get the furnace to come on by itself.    Have to turn the switch to ON as the AUTO doesn't seem to trigger it.   Very cold here.  So I am guessing it will cost me all the money I made in Alabama to get the "dadjim" furnace fixed.

I am still in Kingsport (Friday night) with Mother.   She is doing great.   The huge hole they have made on her leg - to remove the small cancer spot- is healing very nicely.  She got to get in the shower today and we dressed the place ourselves.    She is going to be OK.     I am planning to go home on Sunday or Monday - depending on her.   I have a show in Cinti next Sat.   so got to get home and unpack the car so I can pack it again for the show.     I'll try to get back on schedule next week.

Sandra sent a message that Molly Delph Reasor was married to Henderson Reasor.  She   cleaned and worked for the neighbors in their houses.  She lived mostly in the little houses that people had on their farms for the farm hands - the sharecroppers.   She had a son and a daughter and I think Sandra said that neither of them could hear or speak.  Mother said that Henderson liked the liquor and never did much of anything.

Footnote:   Millard is her husband.   Aunt Rosalee is Uncle Millard Baker's wife.  He is Lula Baker Reasor's half-sister.

I am back in Kingsport with Mother.   She had a cancer spot removed from her leg last Thursday and they told her to leave the bandage on for 24 hours.  Of course, she couldn't wait to see it , so took the bandage off Friday morning and started bleeding.  I left for Tuscaloosa, Ala.  Thursday afternoon .  Doug had to take her back to the Dermatologist so they could change the dressing and stop the bleeding.    I had a good show in Alabama, weather was great and the crowd was huge.    So today, I drove from Tuscaloosa back to Kingsport to see about Mother.    I will stay a couple days and see how she gets along.

I have made it to Birmingham, Ala. on my way to Northport for a show called Kentuck this weekend.  Weather is so nice and should be good all weekend.     I took Mother to the Dermatologist this morning and they cut and burned a place on her face and then cut a big place on her leg.  She had problems with the needles to numb the spots but was OK after that.  She is one tough woman.  I just called her and she said she has some feeling in the spots now and they are sore.      I will catch up the rest of the days on the blog now.

The weather in 1979 is about like our weather in 2012.  We had frost this morning and it is about 38 degrees.  I'm not turning the heat on till I get back from Tennessee and Alabama in 3 weeks.  It was very cold at the show yesterday.  Standing on the hard street all day and being cold, I'm kinda creeky this morning.  Had a great show = huge crowd with money and they gave me some of it.  Well worth all the work.   Headed to Tenn. on Friday.  Doug's son, Travis is getting married in Knoxville on Sat.  It is outdoors so hope it warms up a bit.  Janice is going with me and Mother to the wedding.   Should be a fun day.  Then the following Thur. I am posting this on Sat. night as I have a show tomorrow and I have to set up the tent about 6 AM.  So I won't have time in the morning to do this.    It is a one day show 10AM-5PM and we have to be off the street by 7 PM.  So it will be a very long day and is supposed to be cold all day.   It is in a nice wealthly suburb of Cincinnati, about 20 minutes from my house(which is not located in the wealthly suburb).    Lots of babies in strollers and dogs on leashes but they all have money and I try to get as much of that as I can.

Footnote:    I knew she would bake some pies with that pumpkin she cooked.   Uncle Millard is a half-brother to her Mother, Lula Baker Reasor.   Jennings is her brother.   Both families live pretty close to her.

I remember seeing the men and women working in the tobacco once it was in the barn.  When I was little - maybe 10 years old- I remember helping (I'm sure I was in the way) Daddy grade the tobacco in a little house that was next to the big barn on the back road near where Uncle Jennings lived.  The little house had a stove in it and I remember it being so warm in there.   They put the tobacco on the tobacco baskets (don't remember just what they are called) and then take the load of baskets to Pennington to the tobacco warehouse where the big guys from the tobacco companies would come in and "steal" the tobacco.  They had an auction like sale and the highest bidder got the baskets of tobacco.   It was a big business in the 50's and 60's.  Almost every farmer was given a tobacco allotment.    I don't know what the business is like today for the farmers, but they are still raising tobacco somewhere, cause there are still way too many people smoking - they will be sick someday.
