Cloudy    I walked over thru the fields to Mrs. Davis, come back & walked up to Jennings house.  Reba come for me and we attended the youth rally at our church.  There was 365 present.  at least 165 had to leave because of no room.  Only about 70 come in to eat  We had as much to take back as we fed out.

At the end of the month in her journal there is a page called "Special Data".  This is what she wrote at the end of the month of March, 1979:  Millard was in hospital at Pennington with a virus from April 15 to April 22.   Then, in another paragraph, she wrote:  Feb. 6, 1979.  Jennings & Elizabeth went to Florida to join Lucille & Ralph, Branson and Opal and Cora.  Elizabeth was sick when she left and about the middle of Feb. she had a stroke and was in the hospital a long time.  Then later had trouble with heart rhythm.  They got home March 7.  Cora come for 2 weeks.  Elizabeth hasn't been at all well here in May.    


Footnote by Pat:    Mrs. Davis is a neighbor.  Jennings was her brother and Reba was her sister-in-law.   Elizabeth was Jennings' wife.    Lucille was her sister( Lucille Reasor Zubke) and Ralph was Lucille's husband (Ralph Zubke).  They lived in Goodrich, Michigan - Ralph worked for Pontiac Motor Co.   Branson and Opal and  Cora were relatives of Elizabeth.  They all lived in Flint, Michigan.  Jennings lived in Flint and worked for Chevrolet.  After he retired, they moved back to Virginia and lived on the farm where he was raised.  

March 30, 1979 Aunt Estelle wrote:

50 degrees    Millard feels some better this morning.  I baked a cake and was up to Jennings a while.  Took Aunt Rosalee to grocery store this eve.  Late I helped clean up the church house for our concert.  I worry about the hatred in the church, over the selections of colors in remodeling the church.  Seems it is all among the ones that our former preacher is so thick with.

Warmer today.  I washed two loads of clothes.  Millard and I walked up to Jennings this eve but Millard didn't feel good.  I didn't get to go to prayer meeting tonite.

Cold  29 degrees this morn.  We went up to Jennings awhile this morn.  I went alone this evening to Pennington for Jamie Ball Woodward's funeral.  She was the mother of Mary Orick.  I knew Mary's children too.  I went over to Sturgill's Funeral Home to see Anna Vesta Hamblen Gilferts body.  Got some plants & fertilizer for the garden.

Snowing this morn.  Very cold.  We nearly freoze at church for part of the church was tore up with our renovating.  We had a visiting preacher from Silver Leaf this morn.  David Brewer preached tonite.  Wendi and Janice were home.

Cooler.   I went down to Betty Ramey's for milk and over by Aunt Rosalee's.  After lunch walked up to Jennings a while.  Such a dreary day, cool and rainy all day.

Thursday, March 22, 1979      Aunt Estelle wrote:      72 degrees.   We had Jennings, Elizabeth and Cora for lunch.  Reba was in later.  I cooked all morning.  I hate to be so slow, but took me a half day to fix a lunch.  We enjoyed having them, we don't have much company any more .             Footnote:   Jennings is her bother and Elizabeth his wife and Cora is Elizabeth's sister who lived in Flint, Michigan.   Reba was Millard's sister who lived up the road.

Wednesday, March 21, 1979      Aunt Estelle wrote:    60 degrees up to 75.   I washed some, cleaned the shower stall.  Went down to Aunt Rosalee's and back by Virginia Shuler's, Lizzie's and Jenning's.  Up to Radious  a minute this evening,  Millard got sick at his stomach this eve.               Footnote:    Aunt Rosalee is her aunt -she is married to Uncle Millard Baker, who is her Mother's brother.  Her Mother was Lula Baker Reasor.    Virginia Shuler and Lizzie are neighbors as well as Jennings (her brother).  Radious is also a neighbor.   So she was just visiting around her neighborhood - to see what was going on and if anyone needed anything.    Virginia Shuler is my Aunt also.  She was married to my Daddy's brother - Harold Shuler and they lived nearby and Aunt Virginia didn't drive so  Aunt Estelle visited her often and did things for her.     They were both avid readers so they swapped books and they always put their name or initials in the book so they would know who had read it.

Saturday, March 17, 1979     Aunt Estelle wrote:     warmer.  We rode down the road and stopped at Johny Sturgill's and on to Grant Morefield's,  just enjoyed the ride.  Helps to get out and just loaf a little.                                       Footnote:  I don't know Johny or Grant but I am guessing they are people who live in the neighborhood.  Going down the road means she was going West toward Dryden and Pennington Gap, Virginia.  You can find them on the map.      "Just loaf" means to "just hang out"

Thursday, March 15, 1979      Aunt Estelle Wrote:      32 degrees cold.   We went to the John Reasor funeral  this eve. Then on  to Appalachia to have the car inspected and had to have a tail pipe put on.  Out to Janice Gail's a minute.                                 Footnote:  John Reasor was a relative (I think).  Aunt Estelle's maiden name was Reasor and I guess they were all related somehow.    Appalachia is a small town about 12 miles away.  Janice is her daughter who lives in Big Stone Gap which is between Appalachia and Deep Springs where Aunt Estelle lives.

Wednesday, March 14, 1979     Aunt Estelle wrote:    A real cold wind all day.  Jennings and I went to Kingsport for medicine.  I went up to Stell Kelly's a while  this evening.  Tonite to prayer meeting.  Jennings and I were just gone about 3 hrs. but we shopped a little and eat at Long John Silvers.  Had a nice visit.                                                     Footnote:  Jennings is her older brother and lives nearby.  Kingsport is in Tennesses and about 45 miles southeast of Deep Springs where she lives.  Stell Kelly is Estelle Kelly and one of her dearest friends and neighbor.

Tuesday, March 13, 1979    Aunt Estelle wrote:      65 degrees  I cooked dinner for Curt.  Washed some.  Took Aunt Rosalee to the grocery store.  Then Cora Reasor and I visited Mrs. Zora Parsons Green.  John Reasor died (a son of Tip Reasor)  His  wife is Mae and daughter Mary Catherine and 3 grandchildren.                                                      Footnote:  Curt was Curt Ely and Uncle Millard's nephew.   Aunt Rosalee is her aunt - sister to Aunt Estelle's mother.   Cora is a relative by marriage . Zora is a neighbor and John Reasor was a distant relative - I think.  Aunt Estelle's maiden name is Reasor and her married name is Ely.

Aunt Estelle wrote:   54 degrees      We are nearly flooded.  Millard and I got to church this morning and I went back tonite.  Janice and Wendi were home.  Church was short of several this morning.  I hurt so bad when we are tore up at church.  Such hatred.  Some followed our former pastor this morning.  I really don't think it was preacher worshiping but hatred for other in the church.

68 degrees  I washed some.  About 11:00 oclock we had a car wreck allmost in front of the house.  Millard and I both went to pieces.  It was a old man and he really wore the car out.  About the middle of the evening we rode down to Uncle Ray Baker's.  Radius and Walter come in late.
