Since this is a leap year day, Aunt Estelle's diary does not have an entry. So I will take this day to give you a little info about Aunt Estelle. She was born May 21, 1913 in Lee County, Virginia. The area is called Deep Springs, Va. and is located about halfway between Pennington Gap and Big Stone Gap . You can find those towns on the map. She had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. The only survivor is my Mother, Edith, who will be 93 on July 16 this year. Aunt Estelle was married to Uncle Millard Ely and they have three children, Redge, Rosemary and Janice. She was very active in her church - Deep Springs Baptist Church and spent her days looking in on neighbors and working in her garden when she wasn't driving her car up and down the road checking on people. As I continue to post her writings, you will read about a lot of people who stopped to visit them and people she visited - some I knew and lots I didn't know - so don't feel bad. So I hope you enjoy these writings. They are very interesting I think. Wendi you are mentioned a lot so hope you don't mind. Wendi is Aunt Estelle's granddaughter, she lived in Big Stone Gap and got to spend a lot of time with Aunt Estelle and Uncle Millard - many funerals later - Wendi did grow up to be a normal and successful person.

It is Monday, Feb. 27 and the year is 1979 Aunt Estelle wrote:
30 degrees House dripping a lot. I got Reba to come down and sit with Millard while I took Aunt Rosalee to grocery store and I had to go to the Post office and get Jennings and Elizabeth mail and pay their bills. Sure wish they were home. I worry about Jennings as much as Elizabeth, even if she is the one sick.
